ATT Beware! They try to get more money. Carol Stream, Illinois |

In September of 2010 we moved into our new place. Soon thereafter, we decided to get internet service as most people do. We already had our dsl box from another relative that formerly had service with ATT, so we decided to take advantage of their promotion that was good for about a year. We were told that we had no contract, so we decided to sign up. A few months later, ATT sent us a mailer that was for a promotion for U Verse services. For a low promotional price, we could pay under $100 a month for tv and internet (not the dsl kind). We had a technician come out and install the U Verse package. I asked the technician what would happen to the dsl service and he said that when he installed U Verse, dsl was automatically disconnected as U Verse and dsl are not compatible and "we don't need two internet services either". That sounded good, and everything was installed without problems. On 4/30/2011 I received a very alarming letter from Att, stating that I had not paid my "internet" bill in months. They were asking for $53.XX and demanded that I pay it by 5/10 to avoid "disconnection and collection". We pay our U Verse bill every month, usually a few weeks before it is due. So, naturally I tried to call ATT and find out what was happening. I discovered that their offices were closed, and would be until Monday (unacceptable in my opinion, when untrue matters such as this occur they need to be there to deal with their customers). It dawned on me that this letter was not in regards to my U Verse service, as my payment for the month is not even yet due and neither is the "internet" bill that they wrote me about. I realized that they were trying to make money off of services that I do not have, and that their technician either did not do his job and disconnect the dsl as he stated, OR that they are trying to say that I am using two internet services at once. The interesting thing is, when the "account number" that they provided is looked up, I could find no information on it and I was never even sent a bill or dsl after it was "disconnected" when I got U Verse services. A complaint was filed with the BBB and I am waiting on Att to care enough to be open or discuss the matter with me. This is totally unacceptable and unfair for business practices. I find it hard to believe that they have an A+ rating with how they treated me. |
