So I receive this post card in the mail that looks like it's from HUD and telling me to call so they can tell me if I can receive a loan modification from my lender under the federal program. I call. They take my information and say they will get back to me the next day. The next day they say that I qualify and that they need to connect me to a lawyer that they will research for me. They say I'll need to pay them $3000 to perform the modification and their strategy is to review my bank documents to find illegal lending and sue my lender. They say just the threat of a suit will make my lender modify my loan. He also mentions that I will never loose my house because the law firm will put a lean on my house that if the bank forecloses they will have to pay to release the house and then I'll get that money. (Right... like I would ever let anyone put a lean on my house who I didn't really owe money too) I tell him I don't really want anyone putting a lean on my house. So he sends me this information about the law firm he found to represent my case against my lender. Here is the that he sent me. Here is the that I looked up myself. So you'll notice that the false one has a A+ rating however the correct one has an F rating. He also sent me a which I'm supposed to sign (yeah right) The immediate thing I noticed about the retainer agreement is that it doesn't say a single word about mortgage modification. All it talks about is doing research to see if I have a case against my lender. Apparently it's illegal in CA to get paid to do a mortgage modification until after the modification is complete. I'm sure what happens here is that you pay them $3000 for a modification and are shocked to find out that you only get research and low and behold the result of the research is that you don't have a case. Whatever guys. Don't fall for this one. |
