Interop Technologies Interop Lied to Get Out of Paying Unemployment Fort Myers, Florida
11th of Apr, 2011 by User192639
This company lied and said I had quit when they let me go. This was during 2008, the worst part of the recession. My husband and I had both lost our jobs, then we lost our house, some we moved to another state and were living with his uncle. We had JUST moved out to our new place because I had gotten this job. My boss Steve Aubin called me in, without any warnings, without ever telling me I had done anything wrong, just said I was not a good fit and they were letting me go. I have many years of work experience (over 25) and have never been let go in my life ever from anywhere. I was at my last job 6 years and the one before that 4 years. So this gives you an idea of if I am the type of person who does things that are objectionable in other words, my work history is stable. I am usually well-liked everywhere I go, and I am outstanding at what I do (published in my field, was President of my professional association in California, have reviewed text books as a consultant for major publishers). So how this could happen to me is beyond me.
I talked to the technical writer before me I saw her name on some pieces of paper at Interop. They had let her go to hire me. When I called her she at first registered surprise as she thought they had asked me to call her to ask her where something was or something. She stated she wanted nothing to do with them, and was surprised they would want anything to do with her because of the way they treated her. She went on to say, she had put her most seasoned tech writer on their assignment (she was a contracted tech writer not a hired one like me.) She said that, for the life of him, could not get any information from the designated person, my boss, so the project was rocky. He tried everything eh could and could not get Steve Aubin to answer any questions. But, she said, they continued to say ?oh everything is fine. Everything is fine. s fine, everything is fine Then, they called up one Friday and canceled the contract. This is precisely what they did with me after only 5 weeks. They never said there was anything wrong with my performance. They just called me in and said, and this is a direct quote from Steve Aubin, Based on some reports that I got this is not a good fit. I asked Is there something wrong with my performance? To which Steve Aubin very evasively replied Uh uh It is just not a good fit. No explanation - no nothing. To this day I dont have a clue what I did. I honestly dont. If I were a person to whom this happened a lot I would say perhaps I have some bad personality aspects or something like that, but I have never been fired in my life and everywhere I have worked I am well-liked. Again I am outstanding at what I do. I have tons of accolades and over 15 years experience at that time) in this field. But what is really disgusting is that my husband and I were living off of that unemployment check. We were new to the state of Florida. It was the only money we had in the world - and still it was not enough. Then suddenly I get a call from the State of California Unemployment office (I was still eligible for CAs unemployment) saying they are stopping the checks while they do an investigation because Interop Technologies I quit. I said What? I didnt quit. I was fired. So I come to find out they lied and said I quit to get out of paying unemployment. So we had no money for 6 weeks. We almost ended up on the street. Mind you, I graduated from an Ivy League school so this is not something I have ever been accustomed to. Well, they lost. The unemployment people said they cannot imagine a person quitting a job with full benefits at good pay in the middle of the worst recession since the depression. Furthermore, they had a live check waiting for me that last day, and I had been on direct deposit with them. So I could prove, via paper trail, that they fired me because otherwise how would they have known to stop the electronic check and make a paper check? Had I just come to them that day and quit, I would have still gotten my direct deposited check, because it takes several days sometimes weeks, to stop an electronic transaction. So obviously, since they had a live check, dated that day,. And had already stopped my direct deposit, there was no way I could have quit and I had proof as I could easily obtain a copy of that deposited check and provide my bank statement showing no direct deposit for that day. But the unemployment office didnt even need to see that. They just believed me and this company lost. I would not advise that you worked here. They are unprofessional, in my opinion mean-spirited and cruel, and they lied.
