Serta Mattress Serta Mattress strikes again - bogus warranty Internet |

We purchased a king mattress set from a local mattress company February 2005. We were told to purchase a $100 mattress cover to protect against stains and to rotate the bed every 3 months which we did faithfully for the first several years. Within a couple years the bed started having huge dents where we would lay. Within a 4 year period we were unable to rotate the bed anymore because the grooves in the bed made it so uncomfortable to lay accross that neither one of us could sleep on the side where the other one had slept. So we now have had the mattress for 6 years and there is a 3" deep indent on the bed on each side. We would have called the shop where we purchased the mattress, but of course they went out of business a year after we purchased our mattress. We go down to another store to purchase another mattress and were told that Serta would warranty our bed. Great!! Ha, ha. They supposedly have this 10 year warranty, but truly it means nothing. We call Serta's phone number off the website. We pay $50 to have someone come out to look at it. Agree to pay $150 shipping to get a new mattress (some warranty but still cheaper than a new one). We fax off our receipt dated 2/28/2005 showing we paid $899.50 for the mattress set, so not a cheap one. Low and behold, we are told that we do not qualify for the warranty because our mattress is a floor model and other people had been laying on it. Our mattress model was a Winslow which was only made for a maximum of 2 years prior which still would put the mattress as being less that 10 years old. They said we got a discounted price for being a floor model ($899.50 is a discounted price??). We can buy a brand new one for $750 in today's dollar!! We were sold a warranty. We thought since the store went out of business we were out of luck! I guess we still are since Serta won't warranty it. Serta authorized the store to carry their mattresses. No were on our paperwork does it state that we voided the warranty by purchasing a floor model. We were told it states that the floor model exclusion is on their web site. I am curious if it was on there in 2005 when we purchased the mattress. I doubt it. If you are buying a Serta because of the warranty - don't. They don't warranty squat!! |
