So me and a buddy of mine had started an online business selling different parts and office supplies about 3 years ago. We had one of our buddies build us a website, and then we had to open a merchant account. After looking around for merchant providers, we stumbled across First Data Merchant Services. After speaking with one of their customer representatives on the phone they gave amazing percentages on merchant transactions, so we decided to open up a merchant processing account with them. The representative came to meet us and we had signed a contract with First Data, and then were off processing charges the next day. After a while of being in business, none of us had time to upkeep the business so we had decided to close the business. After federally closing the business, I had called up First Data so as to inquire what their cancellation fees were in this situation. First Data Merchant Services proceeded to tell me there is no cancellation fee and that we were responsible for the full $30.00 plus the cost of the equipment leasing. This should have been the very first red flag because how is it possible that one can close a company, and then still be involved in a contractual obligiation, specifically since you do not charge money? This is when I learned that something was wrong about First Data Merchant Services, and that they were a merchant processing SCAM. I believe this because when I spoke to the original representative of First Data Merchant Services she had explicitly stated that there was no cancellation fee, and that we could cancel our contract at any time. After speaking to their customer service people and not getting anywhere because they tell you a manager will call back within 24-48 hours and they never do, they decide to never call you back. So I said ok, I have a good job I will pay their $30 a month for the 2 years and just put that money into the account, and then cancel it when the 2 years is up. Well lo and behold 2 years later I call to cancel and they tell me that I have a 4 year contract? Thats funny I remember signing a 2 year contract and now they are telling me it is a 4 year contract, either their sales person was looking for a quick payday and changed the 24 to a 48, or First Data Merchant Services is a scam and doctored my contract, either way this is considered fraud. So my business partner calls First Data and requests for a copy of the contract, this was a week ago mind you, and lo and behold no contract has been faxed. I called in again today and spoke to a representative who again would not forward me over to a supervisor, and told me that they did fax my contract. After getting angry I hung up on her and decided to give First Data Merchant Services another call. This time I get through to another representative who tells me that she will refax the contract (even though the other representative said that the faxing of contracts was not her department???) And then this representative forwarded me over to a supervisor's voicemail. By the way I am writing this and still nothing came out of my fax, so I will update this later on once I have their fax. The problem is the original contract is in my old home, and I have moved to the west coast so now I have to wait to see the original contract to prove that First Data Merchant Services doctored my contract to change the contract terms. I am definitely not happy and think that First Data Merchant Services is a scam, and filled with con artist sales representatives that are willing to change contract terms to make money, I suggest all business stear very clear from First Data Merchant Services. |
