Pep Boys
Pep Boys Service Manager David Williams PepBoys destroyed my engine and have given us 4 different stories in less than 3 days. Salisbury, Maryland
26th of Mar, 2011 by User948231
On Saturday, 3/26/2011, my husband took our 2002 Mercury Sable Wagon LS Premium to Pep Boys to have brake work done. When he got there he was told it needed a tune-up. He said to go ahead do the tune-up, an oil change, and the brakes. They finished 3 hours later and the grand total was almst $1000 (almost $600 in labor alone, $300 something in parts). My husband started to leave and noticed that the brake light was still on. Of course the mechanic who did the work had already gone to lunch. Another mechanic looked at the engine, wiggled some wires, and said it would take more time to figure out why. My husband did not want to wait and the mechanic said it just needed to work itself out. My husband left the store and drove towards home. 20 miles down the road from Pep Boys (No stops were made) the car smoked, shuttered and died. He just barely got it off the road in time. My husband called Pep Boys and they had it towed back to the store. My best friend went and picked my husband up. My husband and my best friend's daughter went back to Pep Boys to find out what had happened. They told him that due to a manufacturer's defect, a main connecting had suddenly thrown itself through the engine. I called Pep Boys and asked them how they could determine that it was a defect when the rod was gone. They only answer that was that he didn't know, but that i could talk to the manager on Monday or the assistant manager on Sunday. On Sunday, 3/27/2011, I was waiting at that Pep Boys when it opened and talked to the Assistant Manager, Dale. He stated that sometimes these things happen. Connecting rods just sometimes throw themselves through the engine and out the car? WTF!!! He also stated that there was a slight tap in the engine after it had been worked but that it was nothing to worry about. He did not know why that was not noted in the comments on our reciept and nobody had told my husband, but it was on their copy. Interesting. He also stated that the oil and transmission fluid were fine before they did the oil change and transmission flush. I was not satisfied with this answer so I called the Manager today, 3/28/2011. His name is David Williams. He states that there was a knock in the engine when it came in and when it left. He also stated that my husband was informed of this. Funny how neither the slight tap or the engine knock were noted on the work order or our receipt. My husband would have never have left the store if there was a knock in the engine. I and my best friend can verify that there was no knock in the engine. I have talked to several other mechanics who have said that Pep Boys is full of S--- and that they owe me a new engine. By the way this is a 3.0L V6 DOHC 24V engine they destroyed. They need to make this right.
