Scam |

I responded to an ad on Craigslist and received the response below. I was told to get my free credit report, then set up an appointment to look at the house.
The link sent me to a site affiliated with freecreditnation.com, which also shows up on this and other Scam sites. Now when I click on ownerassistedrentals.com it won't load and there is something about "Fraud protection." I believe that both of these websites are scams. If you need a credit report, start at FTC.gov and find the link to annualcreditreport.com, which is the real place to get your free annual credit report.

Hello,
Thanks for taking the time to email me about the place.
We thought we had the place rented last week to a young couple, but communication has dropped off. You are the first person to email about it since we put it back on the market . It would only be fair that we gave you the first shot at the property. Normally, we would prefer a year lease, but would also be open to shorter terms if necessary. I'm sure that you will want to see the property before making a final decision. I will accept pets but no more than 2. I would simply give you the address and let you swing by, but my husband is against blindly advertising an empty home online. Rest assured the home has been up kept properly and had a good cleaning and fresh coat of paint. Basic utilities are currently on, but we expect that you would get them put into your name fairly quick. If you want to go ahead and schedule a time to see the property, go to the link below and print off the free copy of your report. Your score isn't necessarily important, we're just interested in seeing that there are no evictions / landlord related judgments.
Go here to get the report: http://ownerassistedrentals.com/?Prop=V25367
I am very open as far as appointments go to show the property. Any morning after 10am is fine. Just let me know when you have everything printed and be sure to leave me a contact number to reach you at and any desired time. I will call you to confirm a time and choose a place to meet. Thanks for looking,
Thanks and hopefully talk to you soon!

I did think the rental price was too good to be true! |
|
|
Same with me. Out of curiosity was this house in Wash. DC or does this person have multiple listings? |
|
|
Ditto for me. House was in DC. Domain name for ownerassistedrentals.com is registered to someone in Nassau, Bahamas. |
|
|
I got the same exact email for the Washington DC listing. Glad I'm not the only one with enough common sense to smell a scam. |
|

I've also just encountered the same email, and have sent a response to this person that can be found below, please do not read if you think that you might get affended by the word balls.
Response:
Hi Jessica,
This all sounds great, I'm almost done with the credit app, and will be printing it as soon as I set up my balls in your mouth. I'm available to meet after 10AM on Sunday to check out the place and have you lick my balls. Let me know if that works for you?
Cheers! |

Yup. Same here in San Francisco on May 15. I like the "balls" response. May I copy that? :) |

Even I got the same exact email this morning. It seems so true. Good that I landed on this page before giving out any of my information. Next time I am going to make sure that I wouldn't click on this websites sent by anyone. |

Same posting in San Francisco. Place looked great. Too bad. Thanks for posting this. |
|
|
Same listing in Campbell, CA. Unfortunate. So sad that people will take advantage of folks in our situation. |

fell for this 'scam. Does anyone know if "FreeCreditNation"is a scam as well?. I did receive a credit report and also a notification of an address change, rrr. I cancelled my account yesterday, but it appears that the identity thieves were still able to change my address, probably to open new accounts. Looks like I'll have to freeze my credit, a real pain since I'm looking for housing. The site is unsecured which is even more worriesome.I feel like an idiot to fall for this crap. |

I too responded and got this same response. I didn't bother clicking in the link it offered. I replied I would hand them my report in person. I doubt I will get a reply and now I regret they have my email and phone number. Thanks for this site! |

Thanks for posting! Guess I was right to be skeptical. The home I thought I was looking at was in Oklahoma City. Wanted to check before I filled anything out. Thanks! |
