Emporio Collezione (Smooth talking Italian men selling fake leather jackets) Old Bridge, New Jersey |
1st of Jul, 2011 by User982386 |
Middle-aged Italian man with broken English pulled over next to my car in a red Ford Lincoln SUV near a WalMart to ask for directions. He wanted to know the location of a non-existent Italian clothing store. He claimed that he had not been in the area for over 6 years and feared the store may have closed down. He said he was in a rush to catch a plane back to Italy and that he couldn't bring his leather jackets onto the plane with him because of a restriction on his luggage and pulled out an official looking document from JFK to back up his statement. The man, whose name was Alfonso Russo, said he was from Italy and that he would be opening up a store in New York City in the following year and that he wanted to advertise his company, Emporio Collezione. He showed me three jackets and said they were real leather. He wanted to exchange one of his jackets for a gift for his mother in Italy whose birthday he was heading back for. Instead of selling each of the jackets that he said were worth $700, $800, and $800 dollars, he instead wanted to give them all to me to make good business and extended an open hand saying that I would always be welcome to drop by his house in Italy. He gave me his phone number, which he suspiciously had to withdraw from his own cell phone. As we continued talking, he told me to come down to JFK Airport in order to select the gift for his mother. After declining, he insisted that I pay him $170 as that would cover the entire cost of the gift. I did not have money on me and asked whether he was fine with driving over to an ATM machine where I could withdraw money. He then gave me his jackets to hold on to. He was completely fine with it and that set off my last alarm bell. For someone in a hurry to catch a flight to Italy, I would not be following a person through the streets of New Jersey in order to find an ATM machine. We drove out of the WalMart and he started following me. At that point, I realized that he was driving a rental car as the numbers on the license plate were in red lettering. I was able to get in touch with a friend of mine that then looked up the company that this guy was promoting and we realized it was a scam. It said to immediately notify law enforcement when you come across such an individual. I immediately got the guy's license plate number and called 911 as I thought this guy might attempt to do something aggressive after I refused to pay and gave him back his jackets. Police came and got our information, but honestly did not seem to care. They said the guy was free to sell whatever the hell he wanted, whenever he wanted to. I gave him back his jackets and the police got his information for the future. If I hadn't gotten the report online, I would have fallen victim to the scam. Emporio Collezione is not a real company and the jackets he was attempting to sell were not real leather and were probably worth much less than what he bargained for them. |

Same guy described previously tried to scam me in West Los Angeles, on Westwood Blvd near the Santa Monica Blvd intersection.
Late 20s, very short buzzed hair, broken front teeth, wearing a Rolex and a black bracelet and a ring with a black stone, driving a white SUV (a Ford Escape I think).
Asked for directions to LAX, said he was working in fashion and had been on Rodeo Dr in Beverly Hills and Fashion Island in Newport Beach. Wanted to give me 3 free leather jackets since they were Large and didn't fit him and he didn't want to pay tax at the airport. After I refused many times he handed them to me asking that I do him just a small favor: he showed me a picture of his daughter who wanted him to bring her back an iPad for her birthday, he needed some cash to pay for it and was willing to drive me to an ATM since I said I didn't have anything on me. After I told him no he took the jackets back and left. |

Same on Mission Street, San Francisco. Guy in rented SUV asking for directions to SFO. Gave him directions, he gave me his card and he wanted to reward me with a leather Armani jacket for giving directions. Seemed a bit disproportional.
His card listed : Giorgio Armani, Gianno L Vincenzo, Director.
Seems like this guy is driving around the country to get rid of his jacket |

Well, one of these a-holes in now in Montreal, or so he was yesterday, and I got ripped-off like everyone else. The guy was good; nice rental SUV, nice clothing, the perfect tactics (showed me his passeport, etc). Said he was coming back from a presentation at Ogilvy and flying off to the States.
Anyways, the jackets are not THAT bad but I still wonder what the hell went through my mind to accept this deal.
His name was Marco something... |

Hi I have been had by the same scam... Two men claiming to be heading back to the air port (Toronto, On) and needed to unload some leather jackets. They got me (Dufferen & Major Mac) for $640.00 (Can) or $450.00 (Euro). Should of known better !! Had to find out by my lovely wife when I told her the DEAL...lol I had. Only to find out that the jackets had a very low value. |

I just fell for this scam in San Diego. I gave him $140 for three "claimed" leather jackets. One thing I noticed was the leather smell was very unnatural and irritates my nose. Well, as people said over and over, "when it's too good to be true, it IS too good to be true." |

Today I had the same scam while visiting South Beach in Miami. The Italian guy drove by and asked for direction to Airport. After my direction, the Italian guy told me the same story reported here word for word: he finished a clothing exhibition in Miami and want to thank me with a bag of Giorgio Armani 3 "fake" leather jackets. He also gave me a business card showing his name " Gianni L., as a manager of Armani Collezioni at Milano. His listed phone number is 3310887765. He said he couldn't bring those clothes to Milano anyway. After that, he asked a cash returned to buy his son an iPad at airport for his son's birthday party tomorrow in Milano. I gave him $300 for 6 jackets. Of course, he asked for $500. I told him I don't carry more cash. After I getting back home, I told my wife about those Italian Jackets. I realize I was cheated. I got online search for his business and I saw so many stories. I was so pisses off. What is wrong with theses Italian men! |

Same "modus operendi" (four Armani leather jackets selling for $12, 000 at Harry Rosen) for whatever cash I have in my pocket at Longo's parking lot at Hwy.7 & Woodbine in Toronto. I refused to buy, and he freaked out swearing at me...he drove off real fast. |

SCAM ALERT! Was in London, Mayfair area when a small car (looked like an Italian make). He asked me for directions to the airport with a map in his hand as he was lost. After giving him some directions on how to get to the airport he said that we should do business together in the Middle East (my nationality).
He gave me a business card that reads Marco Antonio, Giorgio Armani, Manager, Via monte napoleone 3 milano italia fax:081600893 Tel:3310887765 Email: [email protected].
After that, he offered me 2 leather jackets that he claimed were worth £3, 000 for helping him with the directions. He said that he had lost some money at an after party of an event at Harrods (luxury store) were he was releasing the jackets that he designed (same jackets as the ones he gave me).
He asked me if I had some cash for fuel as he was now driving to Italy instead of going to the airport. I gave him £50. He said that it would just be enough for coffee and he needed more.
I gave him an additional £50 and never saw him again. Decided to post the story as I found some useful information here. |

Same story. Exactly. First he said he'd give me a shirt for helping out with directions to the airport. He asked for whatever I wanted to give for 3 jackets.I pulled out $50, because I 'm cheap and cautious. He didn't. Like that and wanted 50 more. I just took 2 for the $50, figuring if they're not real I'm not paying more than I'd pay in a store for a pu jacket. I'm cautious because we're close to L.A. And they sell counterfeit every thing. |
