Emporio Collezione
Emporio Collezione (Smooth talking Italian men selling fake leather jackets) Old Bridge, New Jersey
1st of Jul, 2011 by User982386
Middle-aged Italian man with broken English pulled over next to my car in a red Ford Lincoln SUV near a WalMart to ask for directions. He wanted to know the location of a non-existent Italian clothing store. He claimed that he had not been in the area for over 6 years and feared the store may have closed down. He said he was in a rush to catch a plane back to Italy and that he couldn't bring his leather jackets onto the plane with him because of a restriction on his luggage and pulled out an official looking document from JFK to back up his statement. The man, whose name was Alfonso Russo, said he was from Italy and that he would be opening up a store in New York City in the following year and that he wanted to advertise his company, Emporio Collezione. He showed me three jackets and said they were real leather. He wanted to exchange one of his jackets for a gift for his mother in Italy whose birthday he was heading back for. Instead of selling each of the jackets that he said were worth $700, $800, and $800 dollars, he instead wanted to give them all to me to make good business and extended an open hand saying that I would always be welcome to drop by his house in Italy. He gave me his phone number, which he suspiciously had to withdraw from his own cell phone. As we continued talking, he told me to come down to JFK Airport in order to select the gift for his mother. After declining, he insisted that I pay him $170 as that would cover the entire cost of the gift. I did not have money on me and asked whether he was fine with driving over to an ATM machine where I could withdraw money. He then gave me his jackets to hold on to. He was completely fine with it and that set off my last alarm bell. For someone in a hurry to catch a flight to Italy, I would not be following a person through the streets of New Jersey in order to find an ATM machine. We drove out of the WalMart and he started following me. At that point, I realized that he was driving a rental car as the numbers on the license plate were in red lettering. I was able to get in touch with a friend of mine that then looked up the company that this guy was promoting and we realized it was a scam. It said to immediately notify law enforcement when you come across such an individual. I immediately got the guy's license plate number and called 911 as I thought this guy might attempt to do something aggressive after I refused to pay and gave him back his jackets. Police came and got our information, but honestly did not seem to care. They said the guy was free to sell whatever the hell he wanted, whenever he wanted to. I gave him back his jackets and the police got his information for the future. If I hadn't gotten the report online, I would have fallen victim to the scam. Emporio Collezione is not a real company and the jackets he was attempting to sell were not real leather and were probably worth much less than what he bargained for them.

This red car with New York plates pulled up to mine in a Canadian Tire parking lot in Brampton. The young Italian man approx 28 years old ask for directions to the Airport. He then told me he had a flight at 9:30 pm and he had these leather jackets which he wanted to sell as he couldn't take them back. I told him that i did not have the $1000 cash he was asking. He then came down to $800 then I told I could not get that amt of money. He followed me to an ATM machine and all I could get was $500. I had another $20 on me and I got fooled for the fake jackets. The name on the plastic cover and buttons etc. is Emporio Collezione. I don't know why i agree to this. I feel so stupid and taken for listening and getting carried away. He showed me that he had an Italian passport and the rental car papers. I question him that if he rented a car from Toronto Airport how come it has a New York Lic. plate. He said that he did not know as this is what he rented from Budget rental. I have been scamed. There was no time to check this on line as he approaches you in a parking lot.

Italian guy introduced himself to me outside money mart asking for directions at the airport and suddenly started talking about how he just finished with a fashion show at shaw conderence centre and that he is left with an item that he didnt sell. He also said that he would rather sell it to me rather than having to pay tax at the airport. Their was 4 leather jackets and 2 suede jackets and he claimed that they were $700 $800 each. At first i wasnt interested but when he said if i buy one with the price of $600, he would give the other 5 for free since he would rather end up paying tax at the airport. To make it more legit he showed me his passport, papers for the car rental and business card. At that moment, i thought it was all legit so i ended up going to my bank while he followed me. After doing some research on the net, i realized that i have been scamed. Looking at the business card, his name is Claudio D - director for emporio armani, giorgio armani, dolce gabana and prada.

Xlang. The same exact thing just happened to me 10 minutes ago in Calgary. He gave me a business card with the same information as yours and the same story about catching a plane to the airport back to Italy after wrapping up a fashion show in town. I could tell he was a scammer immediately. He was driving a Mitsubishi compact SUV wanted $400 for one coat and the other 3 would be free. LOL

What are you guys complaining about? I just got 6 jackets for $260, 1 womens, and 5 mens from this same dude and you know what, they look great. My wife looks hot in that leatherette tight euro jacket and i cant wait to wear mine. I thought this guy was for real too, as a matter of fact, this is the second time i bought from him and i believed his story two times!! But you know what, i want his Armani and Dolce Gabbanna suits, if i can get these sharp knock off for 150 bucks i want them, they are $1500 at Holts.

So stop crying, and start sporting your new knock offs that know one has to know.

Happened at 1:45 PM PST on 11/12/11 in Las Vegas, NV, CVS shopping center on the northeast corner of the Charleston and Durango intersection.

1. He needs to find airport. Yet, seems to know where the airport is better than me!

2. Needs to give me a gift of six Armani jackets so he doesn't pay taxes in Italy. Strange, whenever I visit Italy, I never pay any taxes on goods.

3. Asks over and over if I'm a businessman. I tell him I'm jobless.

4. Says he works at Armani at Bellagio. Well, there are other Armani stores in Las Vegas, bozo!

5. Has enough bling on him to make a pawn shop jealous!

Yeah, I just got scammed. 4 jackets for $200. I'm an idiot. LOL. Oh well, got me on that one. He was driving a blue Ford Edge Sport in Edmonton, AB. I guess 50 bucks a pop isn't that bad LOL.

What's the significance of Walmart?

I am writing from Toronto Canada, and the same modus operandi came about yesterday outside a Walmart outlet. To keep the embarassing story short, I was bilked $300 for three men's shirts. Same O ... Looking for directions. Here on a fashion convention. Trying to catch a plane. Drive to an ATM machine. Brand new rental SUV which looked like a BMW. Unfortunately, I was a slow thinker yesterday. I showed the stuff to my daughter and son in law. The first thing they asked, "why would you buy expensive jackets from the back of a car?" I never felt dumber in front of my own daughter and her husband.

I just got scammed today by a guy in downtown Vancouver, BC, Canada... same story, a guy from Italy asking for directions to the airport, coming from the fashion show, etc, etc... he left me his "business card" from Armani Emporio and offered me three "leather" jackets for 500. I told him I didn't have that much money, and the max I could give him was $150... he gladly agreed to my offer and handed me my 3 jackets. After discovering that they are fakes, I do my research and find out that this scam scheme is older than the invention of the wheel. I feel so dumb for falling for that scam, but I think it's important that people are informed about it... hence my testimonial here.

I just came across the exact same experience today in Vancouver downtown... a guy called Franco asking for directions to Vancouver airport, coming from the fashion show, etc... He left me his "business card" from A|E by Emporio Collezioni and offered me three different sized "leather" jackets... he said that those could worth $1000. I told him that I only have $100, and he reluctantly agreed to accept my offer and handled me with the jackets. Thanks for everyone here that are sharing the same story, I am feeling bad now; however, from another perspective, these "leather" jackets are not too bad.

Ajax, Durham shopping mall, same story and got ripped off 600 bucks. I do feel stupid and could not even tell family. I dropped all jackets at salvation army and hope someone will enjoy them. I just can't stand to look at those jackets reminding me of what happened. Is he scammed is reading this, you just ripped off a honest hard working guy who has two kids, works 70 hour work week with no overtime, wife on maternity leave. I hope one day, when you are down and out, you or your loved ones will get punished, I do believe in karma so enjoy my blood and sweat 600 dollars as you will be begging for 6 dollars one day. Email me at [email protected] if you got ripped off in this area or if you ripped me off, I just want to know what goes through your mind when you do these things, kids. Ok, I understand but grown men still pulling scams. Just sad

Same exact story I got in Middletown, NJ. Walking from my car in the Shoprite parking lot. Luckily I figured it was a scam and told him I had no money and didn't get screwed. After getting home and googling that fake name he gave, I came across this. Called my local police to report and they totally blew me off without asking for any info said "uh huh we'll check it okay, thx" and hung up. Love to see the great work my tax dollars are doing.

Saw a guy trying to pitch the same story to me in Fresno, California. His card said NINO fashion designer. Anyways he has 7 jackets and wanted $1000 for them, I told him I would give him 25 for one but it did not fit so I decided not to buy. They are decent looking coats better then what you could get at target for the same price I just would not pay what this team of con-men sells them at.
