In December of 2008 we purchased what we were told was a rescue bulldog from Amy Herman at Thunder Hollow Kennels. We now know that it was a complete scam to make a quick buck! She posted an ad for a bulldog that she had breed and sold to an owner that abused him, in the ad she claimed that she had taken him back from the owner and that he needed a lot of special love and attention. At the time we purchased our new baby, he was three months old and he was meek and mild. We fell in love and wanted him to have a good home. All we asked is that she give us a thorough background and provide us with all his medical background since we were willing to undertake his less than 100% condition. She reassured us that we were the right couple for him, that he had all his shots and that despite the skin wounds to his ears, forehead, face, legs and tail were well on their way to healing and that her vet was confident that he was on his way to a full recovery. She also explained that all of his wounds would eventually grow back hair if properly and efficiently cared for. We asked her for his papers, shot records and the health records for her vet. Instead she gave us the contact info of the vet that she claims she uses on all her dogs so that we could bring him back to Clarksville and they could work together to ensure he would recieve proper care. Days after we brought him home he began to have symptoms of diarreha, blood in his stool and vomiting. We were extremely worried and contacted Amy immediately. We had to call her numerous times for several days in order to get a return phone call. She was quick to reassure us that this was normal due to his condition and that we should simply contact her vet and he would know what to do. She also reassured me that his papers were "in the mail". I contacted the number of the vet several times, and each time I got the run around. I never got in contact with this "vet" of hers. Even though we found his listing he was always "unavailable". We took matters into our own hands and found a vet in our area that seemed to have a good history with bulldogs. Upon our first visit we spent well over $500 finding out that he had a severe digestive track infection and a severe allergy to corn and wheat, which she failed to tell us about. We all decided on the best diet for the puppy. We were also informed of the skin allergies he would be sensitive to due to the wounds that he had. At the time our vet brought up an excellent point; he asked if the breeder had filed suit or reported against the previous owner that she had claimed to have taken him back from. He also want some history on the previous owner and what exactly had happened to our dog in hopes to make sure he recieved all the right care. He also took the number of the vet that we could not contact. In short this was the first of about at least 10 visits and hundreds of dollars more. Our vet was never able to get in contact with Amy Herman or her vet. I tried to contact Amy again immediately aftet the first visit. She rushed us off the phone and promised to check in on the dog. We never heard from her, never recieved papers and the final attempt we made at contacting her we had found that her number was no longer in service. So conveinent. Our dog has had a number problems over the last 3 years (tons of vets visits/bills) with skin allergies, mange and a laundary list of problems. Our vet is amazed at how well the rest of his health is, and he is amazed that our dog is still alive quite frankly. We know it is only due to the fact that he has excellent doctors, and we refuse to give up on him. We are happy to report that every penny has been worth it, he is happy, spoiled and as healthy as he can be. No thanks to Thunder Hollow Kennels. We do NOT reccomend purchasing from this dishonest breeder, and we will NEVER give her our business again. |
