Wayland Academy BEWARE! Investigate this school carefully before enrolling your child. Financial aid is stingy, favors wealthy students, disciplinary
8th of Oct, 2011 by User796328
Wayland Academy is an institution that preaches all students deserve a chance at education and that they are searching for "diamonds in the rough". The only thing the academy practices is catering to, and feeding the stereotypical snobby, rich kid's playground that most Americans commonly misconceive as "boarding school". i wish i could tell that I was wrong, or that i was the only one, but I'm not. Wayland feeds on the weak and allows the strong to prosper. They feed into the egos and ideals that go against everything we were taught as kids. Play fair, lend a hand, and appreciate what you have. As far as education, and the teachers, the school was excellent. I learned many important life lessons as well. I met people from around the corner and around the globe. This was an opportunity cut short by the infinite wisdom of a failing and
corrupt financial aid and admissions department. When you read articles about how parents send their troubled kids away to boarding school, this is actually true, but not to the extent that most Americans think. Many students who are at boarding school are there because they want to succeed. Out of 100%, there's probably only 10% who are there because of disciplinary reasons. Many of those students have wealthy parents who see that their children are going downhill, and they see boarding school as a way for them to shape up. Others don't want to deal with a problem child and chose to ship him off rather than deal with it at home. Whatever the reason, they can impede on the ones who chose to be there and chose to succeed. There unwillingness to learn can be a disruption in the classroom and lead others on a path of self destruction that can cut short the bright future of a promising individual who made a mistake. We all dream it. We see it everyday when we watch TV, walk down the street, listen to the radio. Our lives our a continuous cycle that revolve around it. That worthless piece of cotton and linen that is stuffed in our $60 leather wallets.
Money. This powerful and wonderful thing that we all want and wish it could solve all of our problems and makes our lives easier. The unfortunate truth is, we are led to believe this, and it is only reinforced by institutions such as Wayland. I can't tell you how many kids are there at the grace of their parent's dime, this opportunity that we can only dream of, and you have some ungrateful, snot nosed kid skipping class playing RuneScape in his room. I don't know about you, but I don't think I would pay $40,000 a year for my kid to gather runes, cast spells, and battle unicorns. These kids are ungrateful
and undeserving of what they have been given. A poor kid on a scholarship would have to bust his butt off getting straight A's just to have a chance. Breakfast, check. Go to biology, check. Study for math test, check. Get blowjob, check. If this is scribbled down in your high schoolers daily planner, than he might be enrolled at Wayland Academy. We don't hear about it at boarding school as much as we do at public schools, but it's like a sub-culture at boarding schools and public schools alike. When you have hormones raging and free time on your hands, with poor adult supervision, the result can only be described as an
episode of Secret Life of the American Teenager, minus the lame acting of course. You'd think a boarding school would try and curve such problems or have more supervision to prevent this. A failing budget and a failing economy just can't afford to employ overtime to already overworked teachers. Many public schools also face this problem and share this genuine
concern with parents everywhere as we see teen pregnancy rates and teen sex rates on the rise. As a Wayland alumn, I can tell you that boarding school can open your eyes, but can also narrow your view. It can bring out the best and worst in a person and can be the most challenging thing you face in your entire life. I would advise
careful consideration of the school before you enroll your child. Also, watch out for the people in the financial aid office, because if you even so much as make a dime more than you did the year before, they’ll shoot your tuition up.
