USPS USPS keeps money for unused shipping labels or postage for packages lost durham, North Carolina |

On Oct. 3rd the postal service misteriously lost an entire shipping batch of packages i mailed out that day, about 15 packages (2 express mail, some first class and some priority mail). They have not recovered them since, none of the tracking numbers are showing up in their system. When initially complaining to them about it, they were rather rude, basically just wanted me to go away. I wrote a formal letter of complaint to the postmaster general in D.C. and have not gotten a reply from them either. Since this was business mail, merchandise to be shipped to customers, i had no choice but to reship those items and pay again for postage out of my own pocket, as well as to replace the original items. I purchase and print all my shipping labels online thru paypal. Paypal only gives you a 2 day window to void a shipping label. However, it may take more than 2 days before one realizes that an item is lost in the mail.... I then filed the insurance claims for the two express mails after given time had passed, and filed mail recall forms for all the other packages. I included all documentation and copies of the shipping labels purchased online. The post office has now send me two refund checks for the item value of the express mail shipments, but they did not refund the money i spent on postage. When asking the local supervisor to refund all the postage for all the packages that were lost that day, i was informed that THEY DONT DO THAT.... So basically i spend my money on shipping labels that can be considered as never been used, since the tracking numbers do not show up in the system, but USPS refuses to refund that money. I guess they just "pocket" it. I think even if you ship an item and they scan it in, and somewhere down the line the item gets lost, they should always refund the postage if nothing else, because the service purchased was not provided, item was not delivered. Everything else is theft on their part. This is like taking your blouse to the cleaners, they accidently ruin it while dry cleaning, then reimburse you for the blouse but still charge you for the service.... |
