United Public Opinion Group Survey cruise scam, Internet |
21st of Dec, 2011 by User772973 |
My experience is identical to others who have already reported this scam on this site: no way to collect tickets, no way to contact company, bogus page that purports to be code from an email server. My question is, why is this site still up and running if it's been known to be bogus for so long? |

These scammers make their money by collecting key bits of information and selling it to other telemarketing groups. The way to beat them is not to hang up on them. I have found the following works very well:
- Answer the 10 multiple choice questions BUT press an invalide number for every question. For example when it asks you to press 1 for male, 2 for female, press 3 or some other number. It accepts incorrect answers and it will only take a minute to go thru the 10 questions.
- After you answer all 10 questions you get connected to a real human being who only wants to confirm your phone number and get your name and postal / zip code. Provide false answers to both but write down the false name and zip code.
- Once the human gets that critical info he immediately connects you back to the automated recoding that directs you to surveycruise.com where you can enter your phone number and zip / postal code to collect your free cruise. Well by entering the phone and zip code you validate the info and essentially create a relationship which allows United Public Opinion Group to skirt the DoNotCall rules. Of course you never get your cruise tickets. However, here is what you do get:
- You now do not get a call back from this number
- You have provided info which is inaccurate. That means the customers of UPOG recv garbage data and when then figure that out, they will stop paying UPOG for the info.
- You are costing UPOG money by wasting their limited people resources collecting garbage data.
- Effectively you will put them out of business when their customers figure out what's going on.
This is the a good way to fight these guys. You change the rules of the game!
One final suggestion: UPOG / Surveycruise.com website is hosted by a large web hosting company called GoDaddy.com. They have a link for people to complain about bogus and scamming web sites. If enough people complain, they will shut the site down.
