I started doing work for Tavon James in March 2011. Initially I never had a problem getting paid promptly for my work. In April everything changed. Tavon announced that she would only be paying once a week. After the payment schedule change was made I completed two projects for her. I volunteered to complete one project, and she specifically asked me to complete another. When the time came to pay it seemed as though one calamity after another occurred. First Tavon was in the hospital, then her clients were not paying, and finally she had no electricity. Though Tavon claimed to be unable to make payments because she had no way to access PayPal invoicing, she was able to find a way to wifi to request changes to work or contact clients. When the invoicing issue was brought up Tavon said she could not access PayPal invoicing on her iPhone (multiple writers were waiting for payment) and she continued to promise to make payment on specific days only to disappear on the day payment was due. I have tried to contact Tavon about payment several times and the most I have gotten was a very small percentage of the total amount owed. The final straw came when I checked the Internet and offline sources only to find that all of the content I created for Tavon was in use. I contacted her to find out if all of her clients truly had not paid and I also contacted Pam Cheatham, the woman Tavon said was her business partner, when I was unable to get a response from Tavon. Initially Pam claimed she did not know Tavon, but when I forwarded emails she (Pam) had sent to me for Tavon the story changed. Suddenly Pam knew Tavon, but had no knowledge of the projects Tavon was not paying for. I am not sure if Tavon James is just a writer who got in over her head and is dealing with several issues at once, or if she is a person using multiple names to take advantage of writers. The name she uses for PayPal invoicing is Shaikyra James so I do not know if that is her real name or the name of another business associate. Any writer who is contacted by anyone named Tavon James, Shaikyra James, or Pam Cheatham should be extremely cautious. It is entirely possible that you will be paid for the first few projects, but once you are owed hundreds of dollars you will probably get the run around. Please look out for the following email addresses: [email protected] [email protected] If you are a writer who has been taken advantage of by this person (or persons) please file a complaint with the Alabama Attorneys General office. Do not let someone continue toprofit off of your hard work! |
