My husband and I were referred to Summit Van Lines, Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. By Jewish Family Services of Broward County. I am an elderly disable woman and paid to have my entire household packed in special crates, etc. by the movers, Summit Van Lines. We stored practically everything we owned with them for 2 and a half months. When it came time for delivery, the movers piled the boxes in in such a way we couldn't see what number corresponded to the bill of lading and the furniture which we were unable to see was damaged. We also paid for the unpacking, so again there was no checking of the bill of lading by us because of the hurry these drivers were in. We called Summit immediately, and spoke to Daniella who is no longer with the company. The movers lost vacuum cleaners, a step stool, and a ceiling fan which we told them the day of the delivery and the unpackers left things unassembled As we went through our belongings we saw the damages of caning in chairs, tape stuck on furniture, computer parts in pieces and unusable, picture frames broken, fiesta ware broken, sculptures and mirrors chipped and linenes and rugs ruined by some oily black goo. I called Summit to speak with a supervisor or the President of the company to no avail. I wrote a detailed letter including photos, citing damages and was reassured that we would be compensated. Then we had to refile a claim with their claims department and ended up getting an offer after months of reviewing our claim of less than $400.00.! They have offerred us no avenue of recourse and we have no way of repairing let alone replacing the damages and the losses. This move has really affected both my and my husbands health. We paid a small fortune to a company for carefully packing, storing, moving and carefully unpacking and reassembling our belongings, and all we got was the move. Summit Van Lines did not perform services they were paid for and then used that non-performance to justify their unwillingness to be responsible their lack of living up to their contractual responsibilities. The people at Summit Van Lines should be ashamed of themselves and the way they scam their customers.
