Beware!!! Fisk Movers of Slidell, also known as Fisk Van Lines of Upstate New York, also known as Slidell Moving and Storage, and also know as Stevens Van Linescan provide you with the nightmare of your life!!!The owner Roger Fisk is a master of avoidance and will not respond to communication regarding a furniture damage claim of $7,525.87 with additional damage to Brazilian Mahogany floors (not included)which incurred when one of his movers decided to move a baby grand piano alone.
The piano was damaged, cords were pulled and twisted, resulting in a broken pedal cable and a brass pedal sustained damage. The top of the piano was dented andrequired refinishing, it will never be returnedto the pre movecondition. The top of the dining table had to be completely refinished, accounting for 2 months of time without the table for the holiday season. Damage was also dione to 16 different pieces of furniture, most fine antiques pieces; and we paid additional money to move some items!
A packing truck was not used in this move - so the furniture was not packed correctly. One of the workers commented that he could "hear the furniture rubbing when he was in the cab of the truck" ! The first day, when the truck was loaded in Monroe, La the movers appeared professional and careful with the furniture - the following day in Lafayette, La -2 of the 3 movers stayed on cell phones arguing with other individuals.
When the damage was noted at the end of the second day, we called Mr. Roger Fisk, stating that we would not pay until the damage issue was resolved. He became very beligerant, defensive and rude, stating that he would put a lien on our house. So we paid the moving costs, including additional charges for the piano, a treadmill that was left in pieces in the yard outside, a refrigerator that was missing a handle, and a washing machine that had been scratched up and had blue marks all over it, which was not included in the claim.
I invited Mr. Roger Fisk to come and see the damage sincehe is only a couple of hours awayand the damage was large and unexpected in a move provided by "professsional movers". Mr. Fisk declined the offer and referred me to his "claims" department, a Ms. Alise Elliot in New York (985-863-9916),stating this personwould handle this claim. I have called and faxed claim forms, information regarding the damages, estimates from various people that are required to do the repairs and receipts of payments that I have incurred repairing the damages. I discussed thes issues with Mr. Fisk on two occassions - last contact with him was on November 1, 2010, when he was busy moving machines for the election process.
On November 9, 2010 all of the claim forms and substantiating information, including estimates and claim forms, were faxed to Ms. Alice Elliot (985-641-4340), athis request. On November 24, 2010, a letter from Ms. Alise Elliot stated that the claims process "would start immediately and be resolved within the next 30 days". Multiple follow up calls to Ms. Elliot either do not get returned or she states"we are processing it and will call you".
Please be aware of the business tactics of this company- it is known by many different names, depending on the form or paperwork.Mr. Roger Fisk states that he has locations inUpstate New York and Slidell, Louisiana, but one can not be sure of his true locations or names. He may or not be insured, although that was a question that I posed to his son, Chris Fisk, who assured me that they were bonded and insured. Mr. Fisk isa very unprofessional and arrogantindividual to deal with - just be safe when selecting movers and make sure that you choose someone that is reputable.
He pays his fees to the Better Business Bureau, so he has a good rating on that website, although there are reports of issues noted ontheir website. The comments on this website - give a true picture of the type ofpersonthat you deal with when things go wrong with the move. Thisissue isvery time consuming and stressful, and Mr. Roger Fisk is cold, uncaring and arrogant - stay away from his businesses! Today is January 11, 2011 - no positive response from Mr. Fisk - should I be surprised???
