I adopted a dog through PAWs for Pets program that adopts animals out every Saturday at Petco in Beaumont, Texas. When my dog got loose, I informed PAWs and they told me they would alert volunteers to be on the lookout. 2 weeks went by and I received a phone call from a man claiming he found my dog and brought it to a woman at a local business in my town. This woman just happens to be a volunteer with PAWs. I was NEVER informed from the volunteer or PAWs that my dog had been found. The only way I knew she was found was when the man called to tell me who had her. When I approached the woman, she claimed that she was now the legal owner of my dog and that I had breached my contract. No proof of her accusations, no proof of her "legal" ownership, just confirmation that she did in fact have my dog. I had the dog micro-chipped, and the police confirmed that I am the legal owner of the animal, but said they couldn't get the dog back because of the womans claims and that I should seek the advice of an attorney. I was informed that no person can possess legal ownership of my dog without me signing my rights over, but this organization is corrupt and and misleading. When I called them about my missing dog, they saw an opportnity to find and re-sell my dog to make more money, and they did just that. No amount of legal documentation will stop these people from doing what they wish with these animals. I have alerted media outlets, newspapers, and the general public in any way I can to let people know that this organization is SCAMMING people. They are called PAWs for Pets, also known as Pineywood Animal Welfare Society. Please be warned that if you are looking to adopt an animal, do not adopt from this organization because they will take full advantage of you and your money. |
