Mobile Media Solutions Survey Pop up scam Internet, Internet |
17th of Oct, 2011 by User154957 |
Today I did a Google search for something today, like I do many times a day and for the first time going a Google search a popup shows which is styled very much like Google (same type face, colors, page layout style, etc), asking if I wanted to participate in a survey. Assuming it was a Google request I clicked on it and it asked me for some info like email address and phone number. I didnt think much of it at the time because Google is a supplier that I trust. Well, seems I was misled by the actions of this company (Mobile Media Solutions) who then proceeded to text me a pin number which had to be entered to complete the survey. Unwittingly I was agreeing to a recurring monthly charge for text messages from this company for recipies or some such other nonsense. While I admit I should have paid closer attention to the fine print before I did this, I did not seeing as I believed it was Google, not some scam artist company who crafts their pop ups to look like Google. I can only assume that they are doing that intentionally with the intent of luring someone unexpected into clicking on their link and other subsequent actions. In my view this is deceptive and I can only construe the deceptive practices as an intent to defraud. As soon as I entered the PIN they texted to me "ostensibly to complete the survey", online it generated an immediate 3rd party charge to my phone bill for $9.99. Simultaneously, they sent me some nonsense text messages about celebrities and other crap. This was the hint that something was amiss. I immediately cancelled the service online, called their 877,707-1775 number and got a Rebecca or Roberta employee nbr 7074. (Be sure to tell them that you are recording the call). I told her that I was decieved by their practices and demanded a refund of the charges to my phone account. When she hesitated I told her that I am demanding cancellation within 30 days in accordance with their terms and conditions and at that point she agreed to sne dme a check for 9.99. I told them I would prefer the charge be reversed from my phone bill to which she replied she could not do that. Odd that can bill you but they cant take it back. BS. She gave me a confirmation nbr for the "check" and asked formy home address which I relutantly gave to them. I alsed to speak to a supervisor and a guy named Holford emp nbr 7055 came on the line. He played the same BS story about me agreeing by clicking the link and I should have read the fine print. I demanded that my number be permanently blocked in their system to that even if I did click on any of their links and entered my number that their system will not take it. Like I beleive that story. I then called ATT&T and explained the situation and they immediately and gladly processed an immediate credit for the charge and blocked this compnay from making further charges tomy account. So, moral of the story, if you are misled due to the deceptive practices of scum bags like this act forcefully. Say you are cancelling within the 30 day terms, demand a refund, demand to be blocked from their system and call your carrier and have them reverse the charges. At least ATT&T does so willingly and immediately. Now I will see if I ever get the 9.99 check from these people. If I do, I iwll consider it appropriate payment for my time to unravel this and to post this report. I will also be reporting this to Google and am requesting scam Reports to look into this further and maybe Ed has the clout to get the carriers to cut off guys like this who have had a documented history of questionable business practices. It seems the owner of this company has been in bags of legal problems in the past. Cut off the source of funds and this guy will be sleeping under a bridge someplace one day or better yet in jail where he will learn the meaning of true love. |
