Miller-Motte College Miller-Motte Tech College Miller-Motte has unethical strategies to enroll students. The one thing I learned for sure is research,

On January 21, 2010, I started my first day of class at your Fayetteville, NC campus. I was enrolled by Michelle Bethea. When I heard the advertisement for Miller-Motte I thought to myself, This sounds like a good opportunity, maybe a stepping stone to achieve my long term goals. During the enrollment process, Michelle sold the school to me. It sounded great. We did a walkthrough of the school and it was fairly empty (the school had been open for about 4 months at that time). There was no medical equipment. She explained to me that there would be all this new equipment coming in and that attending this school would give me state of the art hands on training. When I initially asked her what the cost of tuition was, she asked if she could tell me about the school first, I said yes I was very excited. When the tour was over she laid the whopping 15,000 on me. I asked her for the whole 18 months she said yes. I told her that was too much (which I later found out I had to take out more financial aid they told me the entire program was 30,000).
She convinced me that when I finished my program Miller Motte Career Services Dept. would place me at a job and the loans I took out would be minute compared to how much money I would be bringing in. She told me the school was flexible to students who had children, and the students would be allowed to occasionally bring their kids to class. I know myself that this is not traditional of any school. I didnt think to myself at the time it was too good to be true. She said I would graduate in 18 months if I passed all of my classes. I later found out that it is impossible for night students to graduate in 18 months yet thats what they told the majority of students who enrolled. I am scheduled to graduate in July. That is the one thing the school is honoring since I enrolled. I have had classes to where the books hadnt arrived until third week of class when there are twelve weeks in a term. There are Professors that are amazing. There were also professors who taught and we would only get to ch.3 or 4 in some classes because every student that was tardy he would make them recite Excuses thus loosing valuable class time. This was reported to the Dean on numerous occasions yet it continued. The clinical portion of my M.A. class all of the blood pressure cuffs were broken except one the only equipment we had to practice with were stethoscopes or what the nurse could bring from the hospital she worked at. We use a sex toy doll as a manikin.
They advertise small classes; there are at least 40 people in some of my classes taking away from what I am paying for and what MMC advertises. I personally went to Medical Assisting Program Director Vicki Curtis, Dean Brandon Woodbury, Registrar Heather McDowell, and Campus Director David Sessoms. Mrs. McDowell told me the people up front were trained wrong and they should have not told us these things. I told her so whose fault is that they were trained wrong? She said no one is at fault. I just want them to put themselves in my shoes. Most of the administrative faculties say its a new school, but they are not giving what they advertise; when you go to one faculty member they send you to another. I went to Mr. Sessoms twice about the lack of equipment and he would tell me to make out a list of what we need that is not my job this is not the first M.A program Miller Motte has why wouldnt they model the program after another MMC location. If a new Medical Assistant in the Dr.s office administers the wrong medication to a patient not one employee on the staff is going to say oh its okay shes a new Medical Assistant or this is a new office bare with us.
I am putting a house down payments on an Associates degree the very least I feel like I should have got what I paid for hands on education. They call us the school guinea pigs which I think is very disrespectful because I take my education seriously. I am disappointed because pertinent information regarding tuition cost, and when M.A. would be able to sit for the certification exam. In my opinion Miller-Mottes Admission representatives recruiting tactics are unethical.

October 18, 2011: It was because of numerous reviews/complaints like yours that I managed to avoid this scam...

I admit, I was originally taken in by the "sales pitch" of the Medical-Assisting program. Already having 3 Associates degrees from the community college, I was excited at the prospect of finishing this degree in a year attending night classes only. I flinched at the $13k/year (over $30k total) price tag, but was reassured by the financial planner that between my pell gran and their loan offers I wouldn't pay a cent up front, and I could avoid interest by paying throughout the school year! Not to mention the fact that if I did transfer 24credits over from my othr degrees, this price tag would drop. I have three children under 4, and the idea of not paying for a program that would get me the training I need to join a career field that always calls for employees was almost too good to pass up...

But it was too good to be true. At their Jacksonville NC location, the "recruiter" showered me with compliments about my strong nature, and reassured me that she would pass on the highest recommendation to their admissions director. Being a former car saleswoman, I immediately recognized the tell-tale signs of someone trying to close the deal: she kept asking "are you sure this is what you want to do?", and "are you sure your husband will be onboard with this decision?". Typical closing questions used to commit the buyer and prevent any chance of "buyer's remorse". She kept reminding me that they were accredited, but what's important to know is that they are NOT REGIONALLY ACCREDITED. This means that NO COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY WILL RECONIZE YOUR CLASSES FOR TRANSFER CREDIT! Spend $30k on a degree I can't transfer to a BA degree? No thank you! At UNCW, I would still be paying less for undergrad classes and textbooks, and probably still have some money left over from pell (I get the max $5500), whereas at MMC my pell wouldn't even cover half of one year's tuition for an Associate's in Applied Science.

So I didn't sign anything. When the financial planner called me a couple days later, I told him I was going to NCW and also pursuing an associates in paralegal technology so I can work in a friend's law firm. He wishd me luck and said he'd make a note in my file. Today, a week after I originally went to the office, the "recruiter" called me, and sounded extremely upset that I decided not to attend MMC. I explained to her that a friend of mine owns his own law firm, and has offered me a job if I complete the degree I mentioned. She replied with arather miffed tone "but you already have 3 degrees from Coastal". I then told her that because of that I've already gotten one full-time semester completed because of classes I've already completed being acceptale as substitutes for the required curriculum. I said that it was more financially beneficial, and the promised job was something I couldn't turn down because, overall, it is a much better (not to mention more credible) deal than the one she was offering at MMC. She was speechless, but her tone definitely told me she was furious that she'd "lost a sale". I have no doubt that these people get some sort of bonus for how many people they can get enrolled, much like car salesmen get "spiffs" and commissions for the cars they sell every month.

Is MMC a scam? Definitely. Community colleges have more degrees to choose from, and being regionally accredited you can go farther with the classes you take there. The one we have here has multiple AAS degrees, and even vocational certification programs so you can further your job training or open up new career opportunities. And you don't have to pay $30k plus interest for it...
