Marcus Knight D & M Roofing & Home Improvements, Ripoff building contractor who lies and steals from his customers Allen, Texas |

Marcus Knight was hired to complete a home renovation project. He bid the project and mentioned that there was one project that needed to be complete before he started, which would take approximately one week to finish. Work started on-time, but started falling behind quickly, resulting in a rash of excuses as to why things were behind. There were days when he wouldn't show up when expected, and upon calling him, he stated that he had to finish up another job or work on something else. He did very little to sub-contract any of the work out, so his absences caused the delays to get worse. He did sub out the drywall work, which ended up taking a full three weeks to complete because he got into a dispute with the drywall contractor over money, and that individual threatened to put a lien on my property because of it. Mid-way through the renovation project he mentioned that someone had stolen his identity and money, and he needed a few days off to work with the Allen police to get some stolen funds back and he needed an advance on funds to complete the project. This was highly suspicious and I agreed to purchase materials rather than advance him any additional funds until he could get his affairs in order. I also contacted the Allen Police Department, who stated that they had not been contacted by Mr. Knight about this alleged identity theft, nor had they responded to any calls at his home address. While I suspected he was lying about this identity theft, the Allen Police Department confirmed it. During the project, a granite slab was "stolen" from my front yard during the middle of the day while construction was going on. I then had a bicycle that magically disappeared from my garage as well, while his construction tools and materials stored in the same place were untouched. The list of excuses was countless. Rather than the 6 - 8 weeks expected, the project took 14, and some items were still incomplete upon his departure. A friend who had previously hired Mr. Knight to do work got into a lengthy dispute over money and completion of the work, and later was burglarized in the middle of the night by someone whom the police described as "familiar with the property." The quality of his work is a C+/B-, but the rash of problems associated encountered on my project makes it unpalatable to do business with him. My advice would be to avoid doing business with this individual or any of the businesses he owns. |
