To all concerned, A word of advice - watch what insurance company you sign with for any disability plan privately or with your employer! Most will try to get out of paying but my son has lost his home as a result of becoming too ill to work. His employer has paid premiums for short and long term disability with Lincoln Insurance Company but has not received one penny due to him. He has provided them with medical records as well as several doctor's letters that clearly deem him disabled, but Lincoln insurance continues to deny him using only portions of his medical records. He has been on TPN (feeding tubes) and home nursing care since the middle of Feb. to keep him alive. Our family, friends, and employer have been helping as much as possible but it has become a burden on the whole extended family as well as my son, his wife and their 6 year old son. They have moved from a $170,000 home to renting a trailer. They had to leave the area they lived in due to high rents and now with school out his wife can no longer hold a job (3 of them were living on $10.00 an hour job) due to recommendations from doctors for Greg to not be alone with his son due to his frail condition. I believe I know the game they are playing and think it is extremely wrong to be playing with three people's lives like this. Greg had to stop working last July (2010) when he became too frail to continue with his job as a fire inspector in Federal, State, and private buildings (he did not want to put other's safety at risk when he could not get the systems back on line in a reasonable amount of time) at 30 years of age. He has the support of his employer as well as several letters from them and doctors requesting that Lincoln pay the money they owe him. His employer has dropped Lincoln insurance as soon as their contract was up because of their treatment of Greg. This family has fallen through the cracks and has not been able to receive any help from any agencies as of now. They always paid their bills and even lived without lots. They only ever had one car (1995), no cable/sat tv, no air conditioning, little heat, never eat out, haven't bought clothes in years for themselves, etc. They have lived on bare essentials! Both the employer and I have filed complaints with the insurance commission of PA but that was a waste of time too. Greg is waiting for a hearing with the Social Security disability office and I feel that is why Lincoln is dragging it's feet -- hoping they would not have to pay the full amount they owe Greg. They have applied for medical ins, food stamps, and other programs but were denied when Debbi was earning $10.00 an hour. In fact when she got a $ .50 raise they took their young son off the state medical program because she was making too much. That comes to $20.00 more a week (gas was up high enough that she had to make do without it) This is a very serious problem and needs to be addressed ASAP if these three are to continue to survive this ordeal! Anyone who has seen how Greg and his family have worked to keep going in the face of this hell they are living would tell you that they are not asking for handouts but simply what is due to them. OH did I mention that Lincoln Insurance people never saw him but rather hired a "doctor" from the state of Washington not PA to "review" his chart. It is time to expose this company for what it is and I intead to write to all I can until something happens to get Lincoln to pay Greg and his young family what is due to them. It is the opinion of his doctors that this whole problem has actually caused him harm due to the stress of not being able to provide for his family. At least it has slowed his recovery ---- now maybe that should be addressed in a court of law or on a TV program to set an example of these people that clearly have no problem spending money on stadiums and other advertising at the expense of the people paying their premiums. Do they have any problems going home to their extremely big homes, out to expensive dinners and events, driving their new sports cars, and sleeping in their nicely heated/ cooled beds at night. The fact is Greg and his family are in serious trouble after nearly a year of missing his income. I trust this company will re-evaluate his condtion and realize how sick one has to be to not be able to return to work and still be homebound after a year. I would be happy to report back when this problem resolves. |
