I was "hired" for two publications, Latino Bride & Groom and My Quince magazines; a conjunction between Fiesta Publications and Hearst Publishing. Our agreement was that I would be hired as an intern and I would train for a month with training weeks paid. The pay was $150 a week plus %15 commission, which was absolutely ridiculous, especially because it would cost me over $60 just to fill up the tank to get to the damn place and I wasn't allowed to make sales during training! However, because I wasn't fully experienced in the field, I agreed.
The first week was decent, everyone is nice to you the first week or so. The second week was rocky, I was talked to in a very unprofessional manner and I was being overworked as an intern. On the third week, it was just ridiculously bad after being treated so rudely. I was yelled at and I got cheated out of commission for a second time.I became silent and distant enough for them to see that I wasn't content.
The fourth week, on Monday, I was expected to go pick up money for the first commission I got cheated out of. On Tuesday I was supposed to come into the office to pick up my paycheck and materials so I could go out and do my sales because training ended the previous week, according to the editor in chief. The editor (Veronica) had a little meeting with me. She said I wasn't enthusiastic enough to represent her product (which, by the way, had numerous spelling and grammar errors in the already published copies -I could hardly call it quality work) and that she wasn't comfortable paying me a whooping $150 a week! I guess it was just way too much for her budget. I said it was fine and that I wanted to resign. I asked when I would receive my pay and she handed me a $150 check and said she didn't think I "deserved" to be paid for the other worked weeks because I hadn't made any sales.
Keep in mind, she initially stated I could NOT make sales during training which had just ended the previous week. Where was my opportunity to make sales? I came there that day to pick up materials so I could begin selling, not to get lectured.
For that moment I felt like I had been so used. Since when do employers determine your pay based on whether they think you deserve it or not? This employer was such a waste of time and gas. They are liars and cheaters. If you, or anyone you know, is offered a "job/internship" with this company, or is planning to apply, save yourself the time and mark them as spam.
*Further information: It was typically just two other people (the editor-in-chief, Veronica, and director of sales and marketing, Jeff) and I in the office and occasionally a graphic designer (Suzette) and then two high school kids that they had work on their publications (Angela and Kevin). Supposedly they have another office and other staff that go by the names of Patty (HR), Greg and Barbara -all of which only emailed me, but I never spoke to any of them over the phone or saw them in person, nor in pictures. For all I know, they don't exist.

Thanks for this post I met them in Dallas, TX and I found then really suspicious and can quickly determine that they are all the same person by the emails the wrote me...

Marcela Rodriguez, has posted this in effort to bad mouth these people because she didn't cut it as a Rep. My name is Patty Paul, I have been working with the company for two years and in the beginning I was offered the same and now I make well over $800 a week and have had no problem with this company with 16 people and not just 4 as mentioned above.
I witnessed Marcela Rodriguez's work habits, she claimed she graduated from Woodbury College who lives in Sun Valley, she is shameless, she lacks Spanish speaking skills and marketing & sales background, yet lied to them to get hired. She was a fraud.
She was given a great opportunity and had all of our support. She had no ambitions, no get up and go or skills as mentioned before, and didn't like working with people. Want a shame. She was given two weeks to prove herself and all she did was come in late and complain that gas was so high. I went out on the field with her to sell ads and she didn't even bother to bring a pen or sell materials. When visiting a client, Bella Events, when talking with Denise, the owner, Marcela did not know any of the prices of our ads. She embarassed me and the company. As a result we lost the ad, which was a lost of $2800 for the company.
The client asked her directly how much a half page color ad would cost her to come into the publication and she didn't know. Marcela stumbled and sounded if though she didn't care. When I reported this to the Sales Director he just warned her and told her that if that ever happen again she would be terminated. Behind his back she chuckled and laughed and told me that she just needed this job to pay her upcoming car payment.
I kept my mouth shut, then but, I should have reported her again. But I didn't need the hassle, I was there to do my job, not like Marcela to skimp and just get a paycheck. This Marcela is an employer's nightmare she wasted a lot of time and used up my gas, because she never drove her car on assignments she would come with me.
She is a liar and a cheat. If you, or anyone is offering her a job save yourself the time and mark her as spam she'll waste your time and lower your companies moral and she is a distraction and she cry's foul.

| Nikita, they are all the same person; even on this site. Patty Paul is probably a man, who I'm sure you met, Nikita, because Patty's entire story about me (above) was bull. I never met this so called "Patty Paul", most likely because Patty Paul is a man behind the computer screen! Be aware of "Greg Dare" and a more recent one, "Goo Ranga" which I believe was created to harass me (and maybe you?) after they noticed the attention my post received. HATERS! Also, notice how this he/she messed up on his/her previous posts. After Patty posted a message from "Mellisa Montes" through her own account and then realized he/she couldn't delete it, he/she created a new account and copy and pasted the same message under a new username -"Mellisa Mon". You are SO smart PATTY, yet so pathetic in your attempt to offend or undermine anyone since your spelling and grammar are worst than a 2nd graders. |

Marcela N. Rodriquez, from Sun Valley Is Coo-Coo she got the axe at our company now she's spreading under truth roomers. liar, & Cry baby Sun Valley, California. The truth is we interview her and she was a complete mess and just tried to swindle us to get a pay check.
Marcela N. Rodriquez is a slandering liar and our company has filed a wrongful Slander/libel Lawsuit on her but she's evading service by the Los Angeles County Marshall.
She was let go from the company 1 week later, now she's spreading untruth rumors. About her pay she got a trial period, the first week of work, she came in only two days and the second week she came in only 1 day and she was a problem from the get go with attendance and attitude, now she's blaming me and the Rest of the staff, Marcela lack work ethic and never wanted to work. So we let her go and pay here for the days she work .
Sh had No car, No skills, Lied on her Resume, manipulated and dissimulated everyone. She has even stooped further by trying to character assassinate me. And, she's posting misinformation that we don't exist!
We were unfortunate to give this under-qualified person the benefit of the doubt and give her a trial period. She needs to take pride in her work, mature, and be a professional. If she spend as much time on her job as she has writing these false reports she would still be a part of this organization.
