Lafever Quality Roofing -- Over-Charging/Shabby workmanship Monticello, Indiana |
13th of Nov, 2011 by User947739 |
Mike Lafever, owner of Lafever Quality Roofing, drove to Las Vegas, supposedly to take advantage of a longer season for roofing than they had in Indiana. Two men, apparently working together, made bids to do two roofs. The first roof was a simple flat roof which needed sealing. The old materials were to be taken off and the proper new materials installed. The owner of Lafever Roofing, Mike Lafever, and his helper, did the work themselves. Half the roof looked like it was installed correctly although we got information later that the materials that were supposed to be installed under the rubber top layer, were not installed at all. The second half of the roof was also missing the insulating layer AND most of the rubber top layer wasn't even glued down which causes the rubber to bubble and separate from the roof. We were charged for the insulating layer that never got installed and if we hadn't inspected the roof, would have had serious issues with leaking down the line. The company moved on to the next home. The second home Lafever Roofing was contracted to do was a conventional roof with shingles. Lafever said his crew from Indiana was driving out because they were due to start a commercial job soon ... this job was supposed to start a couple of weeks earlier but construction was delayed ... the reason we were told they were looking for side work, in the interim. The extra man-power was picked up from our local Home Depot store and it turns out, not paid for their work by Lafever. Hopefully, they don't retaliate against me or my home. They stripped the old shingles off and disposed of the trash. The installation of the new shingles looks fine. Shabby work on the metal edging was pointed out to Mike and he assured us the corners would be fixed to our satisfaction. After the second house was complete, the information came to us about both houses which was from Lafever's worker who drove to Las Vegas to work with Mike. Turns out Lafever left town, stranding his helper/former friend in Las Vegas without paying him. This man made great efforts to contact us when he didn't have to. He could have left town and we would not have known about the problem until the roof started leaking. He told us about the shabby workmanship on the flat roof. Mike over estimated the number of shingles to be used on the second house that he kept and I paid for. Both jobs were so badly done, they need to be re-done and where is this "Quality" roofer? Long gone, not answering phone calls and definitely not repairing the jobs. |

My name is Michael Lafever,
And I'm the owner of this company and got a couple things to clear up...I didn't receive material for the insulation due to the customers request of pricing I actually spent money to do it
so how is that over charging? And as far as my "employee" his name was Gary Ralph Ellison and he was paid 1250.00 to do this second job in reference and I received information from Indiana about Gary being wanted for a string of burglarys in Indiana and he was targeting my customer's. I called this customer and reported Gary to them but instead this is what I got ..I charged you a bout half the going cost in Las Vegas..And as far as my Spanish workers are concerned, sthey are daily workers and wont work unless paid daily.so please get your facts in order before you throw rocks while living in a glass house |
