After the HVAC unit went down on my home I got the first estimate for repair or replace from a company called Horizen. They told me that the copper line had cracked and was in such a difficult area to try and repair it, that they suggested I replace the unit. The second estimate was from Kool Wave, which my daughter called out of the phone book. They came over and had me sign an invoice giving them permission to get on my roof. He said he could repair it with no problem for around $700. He was on the roof for less than a half an hour, and he didn't carry anything up with him but hand tools, and a meter. When he started it was 104 degrees inside when he finished it was 109. I begged him to stay long enough to make sure it was working correctly and he indicated he had no time and it would simply take awhile to bring the temp. down. I had an American Express card and a Bank of America card on the kitchen counter. He wrote the number off of the B and A card himself on the invoice. When I objected he said not to worry it was simply like insuring that after we were satisfied he would be covered but I could choose any other way of paying the bill that I chose.
After 45 minutes I called his company and told them that not only was it not repaired but it was blow hot air into the house. I also called Bank of America and advised them not to pay until the repair was complete. The next day he sent another employee over to look at it. He did not even get on the roof, he said for $400 he would look at it again. I told him no. I had an extremely ill friend staying with me. He was on Hospice and terminally ill. His case worker was here the entire time and gave me his card with all #'s he could be reached at. He will confirm that it was never repaired as can the 3 following companies that gave me estimates after the fact. Each one pretty much concurred almost word for word about the problem. I am a disabled widow and my friend has since died. He suffered through the remainder of the summer and froze in the winter and fianally passed away Feb. 17,2011. I could not believe the way we were treated. Two sick (was suffering from cervical cancer) people were ripped off for $700 and I wish this Brady or whom ever (he said he was the owner) had to stand over a very sick and dying man and now that his final days were only as comfortable as I could make them with space heaters and fans.
