From Switzerland, I selected through the website of "HOUSETRIP", a one-year old vacational rental company based in Europe, an apartment in New-York city which I booked and paid for a 6-days trip to NYC. Amount : 1.029 euros. The owner's name is: Joon Park. Just by luck, I asked a relative of mine living in NYC to go and check the place before my arrival. I was then told by him that the building looked OK, and rather difficult to identified because it was surrounded by many shops. Then, I was alerted by the fact that the first apartments located in that building were at the 3d floor, with no elevator, very steep and narrow staircases and no possible help since there was no concierge or even people to welcome anyone (the keys are to be collected at a close-by store..). Such an obstacle could not fit my wife, who is in her 60's and who was visiting NYC with a 7 years old grand daughter; so we had to cancel the booking based on a clear lack of adequate information concerning the access to the apartments. I was denies any reimbursement, and was asked why I did not call the owner before paying the rent !! Pictures on the website of HOUSETRIP looked good..Nothing was mentioned on the owners' website either.. HOUSETRIP, which hosts the owner advertisement on their website, just underlined the fact that they were not responsible for any information provided by any owner !!So, they just collect money from unfortunate clients.. At this stage, while I have lost 1.000 Euros, I just want to alert the "ripoffreport" community about the need to avoid any contact with HOUSETRIP which is just a website matching tarvellers ans some crooks, and Mr Joon Park, who owns several aprtments in NYC and is just to be ignored, before being sent to court. |

I can see how this could happen. I have properties listed with HT. So far so good. However I did explain to them, even the CEO that we are listed with the tourism office. That means we have been inspected a number of times and have a certificate and rating. I asked HT if they could find a way to allow us to show we are reputable and could they not give a preference to those who are obviously doing the right thing. If you offer accommodation you really should be reputable. I can't count the number of emails where I flagged this concern to them. Never did they respond to this issue. So that speaks for itself. In fact they got rather rude with me for pressing them on certain quality issues. I think we will be pulling our properties from their site as it really does not fit well with our customer service standards. |
