JARED LEE GOSSELIN Native to the city of the revolutionary Motown Records, Jared Lee Gosselin is holding rank in the Motor Citys musicians Hall of Fame. With a resume detailing collaborations with India.Arie, Macy Gray, Floetry, Young Jeezy, Keyshia Cole, and D-12, to name a few, this super-musician maintains the title of credible and established producer, while transitioning to the forefront as an emerging recording artist. He has recently teamed with hip hop great, MC Lyte and Grammy Award winning producer/singer/songwriter, Whitey, as hip hop trio Almost September under SONY Records and released the groups first self-titled EP. Somewhat of a born musician, J Lee took an early lesson at spinning vinyl on his mothers RCA Victor 45 record player at age 5. By 15, he had become a mastered DJ and began transitioning into audio production. Disciplined solely by his gifted ear for sound, a teenage J Lee transformed his Technics SL-1200 into an instrument in its own right, creatively producing original tracks a talent that would later land him a Grammy nomination. Its not at all surprising that Jared sat amongst some of the most elite and well respected in his field by the time he graduated high school. Already enrolled part-time at the Recording Institute of Detroit as a high school senior, he found himself taking lessons from Motown legendary producers , Barrett Strong and Robert Bateman (Marvin Gayes I Heard it Through The Grapevine, The Marvelettes Please Mr. Postman). It was under their mentorship that he became known as the magic man, a name awarded to him by Strong for his technical and operational abilities. Shortly after graduation, Jared Lee was fully operating two recording studios in Detroit. Engineering and producing carried the weight of J Lees schedule and his credibility soon landed him on projects with many local artists. He quickly became a common entity in the Detroit hip hop scene and added his gifted touch to several mixtape releases of recognized Detroit based DJs. Upon his arrival to LA, he creatively linked with Phillip Whitey White. Sharing a similar path in music, the two joined together to create Whiteleaf Productions. While collectively working on projects at the famed Enterprise Studios, the duo met songwriter/producer Damon Elliott (Kelly Rowland, Mya, Jessica Simpson, Beyonce) and landed a production deal co-writing and producing tracks for Shark Tale, 1st Daughter, and Fat Albert. Now, more than two decades since he first stood in front of his mothers old record player, Jared Lee maintains his grasp on audio production and engineering, while occasionally gracing the DJ scene. His course has taken him into the studio alongside India Arie (Power of Now theme song for stage production For Colored Girls Who Consider Suicide), KRS-1 ( 16 17 18), Joe (New Man) Christina Milian (Gotta Get To You), Nicole Scherzinger, Corrine Bailey Rae, Cheri Dennis, and Floetry. He has most notably worked closely with R&B/soul singer, Macy Gray for years. A key part of her past releases, Jared Lee is currently in the studio with Gray working on her upcoming project and is also scheduled to accompany her as traveling DJ on a future tour. Ironically, it was Macy Gray who introduced him to Almost September bandmate, MC Lyte. Jared Lee quickly recalls the moment a mere introduction transformed into a creative merger, MC Lyte came to a session Whitey and I were working. She came back to the studio the next day and we recorded the song "Beautiful". She said she wanted to start a group with Whitey and me. It took us about a month to decide if we wanted to start the group. A fateful connection this was. While promoting the Almost September project, Jared Lee continues to build his resume in the music industry. He is working alongside known DJ, Derek Carter on a ?house remix version of the Almost September EP and also laying down production on various projects industry wide. Despite his intensive work load, Jared Lee never loses sight of the quality in working his magic. The Detroit native said it best when summing up his thoughts on his career, Although I now live in LA, Im extremely proud to say Im from the city of Motown. Motown was a forward thinking label that went after making classic hits. LA or Detroit, thats always my goal when making music. |
