I was given a gift certificate to Style's Salon for $115 worth of services. That certificate was purchased in the salon and the employee failed to mention that the certificate was "for services only"; there is nothing on the certificate itself indicating anything of that sort either. After calling the salon to make an appointment, being up-sold by Stephanie, who apologized after I called her out on the upselling, and ultimately being told that they could not accommodate my appointment as requested, I decided to research the salon. Their business license was delinquent since last November and they had been held accountable for lack of proper professional licensing of the co-owner, Melinda "Mindy" Cain. I decided I did not want to use their services and called to make arrangements for a full refund. After talking with Stephanie at the desk, including the reasons why I would not use their salon as stated above, Stephanies told me that I would have to talk to the owner, Marlene McGuire. The following day, I spoke with Ms. McGuire. Stephanie obviously told her that I had discovered the business license delinquency as the license was brought current that evening. After repeatedly asking Ms. McGuire to simply refund my money and explaining that the purchaser would not have bought the gift certificate if someone had told him about the no-refund policy, Ms. McGuire told me that she would not refund my money, period. That was the end of the conversation although I did give both owners one final opportunity to refund the money and thus prove that their 5-star salon had earned its stars. Neither McGuire nor Cain responded to my email request.
