Herff Jones Poor Workmanship on Class Ring and Bad Customer Service Dekalb, Illinois
14th of Jul, 2011 by User680365
Our school uses Herff Jones to supply most, if not all of the graduation materials including class rings, gowns and caps, announcements and so forth. I had ordered a class ring my junior and was able to receive it my senior year after finishing my payments on it. First off, the ring was a size too small and the gem was loose, so the next time our representative came to the school, I had it sent back with the correct size. Okay, I waited about 4 weeks for it to come back. The ring did come back the correct size, but now the engraved icon on the inside was the wrong one. It didn't necessarily bother me, however, over a period of a few weeks I noticed that yet again the gem had come loose. Now I'm being pretty delicate with it while wearing it and I'm in no way putting any stress on it, so there shouldn't be any reason to why the gem would come loose. Only a few weeks later after the graduation ceremony that I find that the gem had completely fallen out of the ring! So, I had to send it back in again for a second time which meant I had to drive out to the local office that oddly enough deals only with class rings. It is located in a strip mall, but there is absolutely no indication of exactly where it is. No signs on the storefront, no signs next to the road, nothing. The ONLY indication was a 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper taped on the door advertising class rings. That's it. I had probably driven past the place 5 times or more until I actually got out of the car and walked around a bit. So this time, I ended up waiting about a month and a half. It just came back today, and the ring is now the wrong size and the inside engraving is completely off center. Let me get this straight: I spend close to $400 (including the deposit) for a class ring, and all I get is poor workmanship with what seems like no regards to quality? I spend that much of my money, not my parent's or borrowed money, MY money that I worked hard for, and I expect some kind quality and customer service. Obviously, customer service is something that they don't seem too interested in. If I knew that I was going to have to deal with this kind of issues, I would have just gone to a jeweler to have a ring made, being more than happy to spend the extra money for the quality I knew I'd be getting. Thankfully I didn't order anything else from them. Who know what else they could have screwed up...
