I placed an order for 2 plants with Growquest Growers Nursery in Santa Paula, CA on 4/21/2011. Chris Gilcrest is their representative and he has footage in several places on You Tube talking about different plants and their care and sounds very knowledgeable. After I placed my order via the Internet I received a wordy two page receipt of order that included the total due but with statements that payment could only be made through Bank of America Billpay or Chase Billpay. Credit card information would only be used for shipping costs which were to be calculated later. The next day via email I received an updated invoice with a different total amount due, three days later another email invoice that stated payment was overdue. I scheduled the payment via Bank of America via return email informed him of payment. 10 days later I received another Internet Invoice requesting payment but checking with my bank payment had been made 2 days earlier. I thought it was just faulty bookeeping and emailed back that he check his receipts- no response. Two days after that I emailed back requesting verification of payment received again - still no response. I then received a request for payment via US post with a third amount due. After checking with the local BBB and finding no reports/complaints, I paid the $4 difference via check thinking the difference in amounts to be the cause for the hang up on delivery - no plants. I tried calling the number on the invoice and found out the number was not serviceable. REchecking the website I found a different number and called that only to get his voice mail - I left a message and still no response. I then drafted a long letter outlining the entire transaction as I saw it and gave Gilcrest 10 business days to provide the plants or return my money - no response. I have since found on ripoff report.com that this man is notorious for this and has stolen money from many people both locally in CA and through his Internet scam. |
