Well - I thought I was getting a good deal but it turned out to be a scam. A craigslist ad for gift cards (Walmart, best Buy, Visa, Amex, Greendot, Home Depot, Lowes, etc) intrigued me. I responded and got a response within a day. The person said they had $1,000s in gift cards and wanted to meet me in NYC. Fortunately I live in the city so I met him. He offered to verify the value of the cars by calling the number on the back. He called out the number as he dialed. He then quickly dialed "0" several times to get an operator. He allowed me to listen in on the call as he verified the card numbers. What he had done was call his girlfriend but because he pressed "0" so many times, I could no longer see the number he had dialed on his screen - instead I only saw zero's. Of course the woman, his girlfriend, verified every card he asked. I then asked to re-verify the cards myself on my phone. He threw a tantrum saying that verifying the balance too often can set a flag which would then require the card to be reactivated. I then explained that I wanted nothing to do with it so he decided to tell me what he was doing. He said that he was using stolen credit cards to load these cards and that I would have 1 week to use any gift card he sold to me before it would be shut down. What he didn't know was that I had already put a card in my pocket. I did, however, explain that I wanted nothing to do with his illegal activities. I quickly disappeared into the crowd, no harm, no foul. I realize, there are some people that may be okay with buying cards like this but let me assure you it is a mistake. The one card I had slipped into my pocket, I immediately attempted to verify online and found it was INACTIVE. So I called that same number on the back of the card and found out it had NEVER been activated. All this clown did was call his girlfriend and she simply said "yes, the gift card is valid for $500." Stay away. His license place is a NY Plate #: DGN7845 He will use any number of names His left inside forearm has a tattoo that ends in the letters "liday" His front teeth are chipped badly He may talk about stunting on motorcycles or show a significant interest in motorcycles in general He may claim to have a young infant and 7yr old |

You should never have to go through something like that. Next time go through switchon3.com. It will protect you and also eliminate the need to meet the seller in person. Very convenient. |
