Beware of this individual; he is a scam artist! I was at Home Depot on Lee's Summit Rd in Kansas City, MO on April 21, 2011. Myron Fischer approached me in the floor tile department. He looked at the materials in my cart and asked if I needed help with the home projects. He told me he had a full-time job during the day and that he moonlights at night & on the weekends. He was very helpful and assuring in the store. He knew several of the employees in the store and introduced me to them. We entered into a verbal contract. Myron was to install my new kitchen sink I had purchased the evening I met him, install a new bathroom sink faucet, snake the basement drain, tear out the tile around the bath tub & replace it and replace my bathroom ventilation fan. I told him I needed everything done within 10 days because I had another contractor coming in to spray my kitchen and bathroom wall tiles. He said "no problem." During the first week of work Myron had every excuse for not working. He had a friend shoot himself in the head. He had a nephew OD on K2. Then a friend of the nephew shot and killed himself. He let almost a whole week go by before he did any work. He would stop by for 20 minutes or so and said he had to go after getting money from me. He would always ask for beer and cash. The one Friday night he was to work he stopped by late, of course, and smelled of beer. He said he was late because he was out drinking. Nice! He couldn't work all week at my house and was late getting here and then could only work for 20 minutes, but had time to go drinking. Myron would give me sob stories each time he came over about the hard time he was having, but somehow he was going to buy a Corvette & motorcycle. Every single time Myron came over he would ask me for cash. He would tell me he was short on cash and could sure use a cash advance on the labor. I trusted him and gave him the money. He also told me he needed cash for parts, but could never produce any receipts for the parts. I also gave him my Home Depot gift card that had $74 on it. He told me it was almost out of money and that he would need more, yet he couldn't produce a receipt for any of the materials. I later found out he used my Home Depot gift card to purchase green board for another project he was working on. I am a single parent of one teenage daughter. We didn't have water in the house for 2 days because he had to turn the water off completely to install the bathroom faucet. He was suppose to finish it the next night & had one of his emergencies and couldn't do it. We were also without any kitchen sink for 5 days! He removed the old sink and because of all his excuses he couldn't get the new sink installed until 5 days later. He told me that if I would tear out the tile and drywall around the bath tub on a Saturday night then he would install the drywall and tile the next day. He was suppose to be at my house at 3:00 and showed up at 6:30 to say he was too tired from playing 8 ball the night before!! He then worked 4 hours on Monday evening and had me run to two hardware stores to pick up materials. During those 4 hours he was only able to get one wall of drywall hung. He asked me for more cash and I told him no. Two of my neighbors told me I would never see him again because I refused to give him anymore cash. They were right! Myron was to work the next evening and didn't show up or call. I talked to him the next day and he said he was deathly ill, almost died, and the police were at his house the night before. He told me he received my email and that he was sorry and just wanted to finish the job. I told him this was his final chance to finish up and that I would not be stood up again. We agreed that he would come by Thursday evening at 4:00. I told him I would get off work early and be home by 4:00. He called at 4:00 to say he was running behind and that he would be there at 5:30. He called at 5:30 to say he was stuck in traffic and would be here at 6:30. I called him at 6:45 and he said, "I told you I was stuck in traffic!" It was apparent he was lying again and probably out drinking again. He then told me he would be at my house in a hour and a half. I told him no and that we were done. By this time I had already paid Myron $561 cash and he had only removed the old kitchen sink and installed the new one, installed the bathroom sink faucet, and put up one wall of green board, On top of me paying him $561 he messed up the drains in my home and I had to call Roto Rooter out. They charged me $325 to clean out two drains. Myron didn't install the bathroom sink properly which caused a backup in the line. The technician showed me the two problems with the bathroom drain and as soon as he flushed the line and cleaned the aerator our sink was no longer clogged! After Myron had worked on the sinks we also could not run the garbage disposal; it would come up through the basemen. Myron said he needed to snake the main line with the big snake. The technician cleaned out the drain downstairs (not the main line) and it all works great now. Myron clearly had no idea of what he was doing. Please keep in mind Myron had us demolish the bathroom; this is the only bathroom in our house. Since he never came back to finish the job and we had to call contractors to get quotes we were without a shower or bath in our house for 3 weeks! This is completely unacceptable. In addition to all of this after Myron had worked on our house the last day we no longer had hot water. I told him about this too, but it fell on deaf ears. We didn't have hot water in the house for 8 days. One of the contractors that came out to bid on the bathroom called me later that night and said Myron had tied the hot and cold water lines together. The contractor said he would bring the bid out the next day and cap off the lines separately so we would have hot water. He did what he said and also showed up at the time promised. We immediately had hot water again! I paid him $10 cash. I told Myron I wanted a refund of $400 since he had not completed most of the work as promised and I had given him cash advances for most of the labor. I told him I thought I was being generous by agreeing to pay him the $150 considering everything he did had to be redone by someone else and I had to pay again. He said he wasn't going to return my money. Big surprise as I'm sure he drank it away! Myron is a liar and doesn't know what he is doing. He will not show up on time, if he even shows up at all. I dame home from work at night and would wait for Myron. He would either be late or not show up. He has no concern for other people's time. I wasted so much time waiting for him during those 3 weeks. He will request cash advances and not provide receipts. It's contractors like him that give other contractors bad names. I've learned a very valuable lesson and will never make this mistake again. |
