EuroCar Garage wouldn't let me test drive the motorcycle - now I know why! Plaistow, New Hampshire
24th of Sep, 2011 by User253883
I called Euro Car Garage about a motorcycle they had advertised for sale, and was told by the owner (Miran) that he had personally driven it, and that it drove fine with no unusual noises or performance issues. I decided to make the drive to the dealer and find out more. When I arrived, I found that the saddlebags which were in the photos of the bike online were no longer on the bike or available – never mentioned in the phone call. I was also told that the battery was dead, and that even though it was running after a jump start, I couldn’t ride it because it would die if he disconnected it from the jumper battery. I’d never heard of that before, which caused me to ask more questions about how the bike rode when he drove it, such as stability issues, brakes, etc. Miran reported that when he drove the bike, everything was fine. I decided to trust him, and bought the bike. I was able to buy a battery over the next few days and start the bike. As soon as I shifted into second gear, a grinding rattle emanated from the transmission, loud and clear. Shifting into third, the crunching was lessened, but basically, the bike was unrideable in second or third gear. A service estimate at my local BMW dealer found that second and third gear on the transmission were completely ground up; a new transmission would cost about $4,000 installed, but the intermediate shaft could be replaced for $1150 plus $800 in labor. I wrote to Miran and explained the situation, making it clear that I would be writing a review about our transaction, and letting him know that I would be willing to write a positive review if he would contribute just $400 to the cost of this repair. I was ignored. A week later I wrote again, encouraging him to contribute to a positive review, and this time got a response saying that he had deliberately ignored the first letter, and that he “didn’t respond well to threats”. All other communication has been ignored. The bottom line is that my questions were clear, and I was mislead. When the truth came out, I was ignored. Don’t get ripped off like me – there are plenty of other places to buy used vehicles, and I would highly recommend you do NOT take a chance on this one.
