Direct Auto Insurance A few lies and being unable to refund. Melbourne, Florida |

I'm just going to warn the populace, as a first time buyer of insurance this isn't a company you want to deal with. First off I walked into this store expecting a great deal from what all the commercials have stated, but I was wrong. Being a first timer the guy sitting at the front desk lied to me as soon as I sat down, also I brought a friend with me who was driving me. I said I needed basic coverage on a car was about to purchase from a private owner and he agreed to that, because in the state of Florida you have to be insured before you can drive a car. After talking with him he said "You will need this entire package its required by Florida State Law to have it all" It contained a bunch of excess that had nothing to do with basic PIP from what I have recently learned. I went back and said well sir you lied to me, My other friend who use to work at a different insurance company explained to me how insurances worked and told me I didn't need a PD whatever that is and I just needed PIP. You told me everything I was signing for was required by Florida State Law, my friend who was driving me agreed with me on the fact that he stated that. Then I guess the manager of the store heard this and ran out to stop my friend and I from talking to guy who scammed me and stated "were sorry now that you have signed the papers we can't help you". Remember to read everything with great detail and question these guys or they will screw you if don't. After all this I went to purchase a vehicle from a private owner, who I guess just disappeared off the face of the planet. He did not reply to phone calls or even live at the place of the attempted purchase. So I went to cancel the insurance altogether, so I called customer service to try and dodge this branch location they were not very respectful at all. Customer Service told me " please fax or bring to the nearest branch location the policy number and reason of cancellation" I went to branch location to turn this in they said "they could not help me with cancellation". At this point I have to say why would customer service and the branch location have two different attitudes about this? So I faxed it to another location who willing took it no questions asked and it was cancelled a day later. Two days later I get a call from the branch location " We canceled your insurance, but you won't get a refund without proof of non-purchase" I said how do I obtain a proof of non-purchase? the reply was the owner has to state he didn't sell the vehicle. So I waited for hours until midnight and the guy never came to his, from what I assumed was his home. In the end I won't get refund and I will never recommend direct auto to any one. I also would like to say that the Florida state law that requires you to keep insurance 60 days after purchase is a faulty law in cases like this. After this fiasco I don't plan on buying a car for another couple of years and I'm just going to bike everywhere. Please read your forms and question everything if you decide to go to these crooks, heck carry a pocket lawyer with you. Also try your best to dodge this branch location, they are very disrespectful to their customers. I would post my name, but I want to disappear from their radar because of the overly sarcastic phone call they gave me to tell me I wouldn't get a refund.
