DDA Distribution Delivery Associates - Verizon Bill Robbins Discrimination and unlawful business practices St. Louis, Missouri
9th of Dec, 2011 by User410456
When you see the advertisements for Verizon directory deliveries (DDA) in your local area, beware as to what you will get yourself into. First and foremost, the pay is minimal and the work is very physical. Secondly, it is highly possible that you will wreck you vehicle not only from the stop and go with your car (from resident to resident) but the weight of the books can ruin your front end suspension. It happened to me. Not a fun or inexpensive deal. These managers for DDA get PAID VERY WELL and have a nice warm office to work in. They have no personality, play favoritism among delivery workers (gave one male in my town almost the entire community and hid routes from me (I am a female) for my town when I went in for a new delivery route), and they gave no credit to a good worker. I was given a nasty route in Westwood, MA last January, 2011. We had snow every other day last winter. This town is very elite; many residents that I had to deliver phone books to were away from home on a holiday break vacationing. Nearly 70% of the properties had driveways that were not plowed. It was not only a real fire hazard for the homeowners but at the same time, I had to walk through the front yards of these mansions (there must have been at least 2 feet of snow that I had to get through for each yard). I had to walk through the front yards as the driveways had ice underunderneath the snow (extremely slippery). I fell twice. I very well could have been buried in the damn deep snow and died of hypothermia. No one was around. My point is, I am unemployed right now and I figured out a way to deliver the books without ruining my car until I found a job (I am almost homeless right now). I found out on Thursday, December 8th, 2011 that I am now on the DNR list (Do not Rehire List). I was told that I could never deliver for them again. I did four routes last year (three in Norwood, MA (where I reside) and the elite route in Westwood, MA. I took the Westwood route as I needed the money. I was told there were no more Norwood routes. Here is where the unfair business practice comes in. I reside in Norwood and I did not receive a telephone book until about 2 weeks after I completed the Westwood route. These Norwood routes were hidden from me (were given to the male with a truck). Anyway, I was told that I took too long for the Westwood route (I believe it was 503 residents) and the manager (Bill Robbins) had to stay within his budget. I was never told anything of such last January. I was told that I was paid extra for the Westwood route and it went over their budget. These mansions, I need to mention were not close to one another and the mansions are situated far from the street. I am a damn hard worker and I put in 150% to get this route and all the other routes done in a timely manner. Bad weather is not put into the equation and neither is the difficulty of the route. One is instructed to not to deliver when it is raining or snowing. We had bad weather in New England, as I stated before, every other day here last winter. I am on their DNR list with others that threw their phone books in a dumpster and went back to get paid. Is that down right unprofessional or what??? Verizon is a multi-billion (trillion) dollar business and the manager was only concerned with his budget. I was not seeking more pay for the route nor did I know that I got paid more for the route as it took a little longer. I wanted to get the route done to complete my paper work and return the GPS system to get paid. One is wear a GPS around their neck and press the button when you get to the door of every resident and business). If streets or houses are not competed, you are made to return to the route to finish or you do not get paid. All my routes were perfect (the GPS man told me in the office). This was my fourth route not my first. I never had an issue other than being upset as they knew that I realized that they were lying about route locations. When I spoke to Bill Robbins on December 8th, 2011 he stated to me that I did not say anything when I came in to return books and my GPS on my last day this past January. I asked him what he wanted me to say. I remember requesting that my check was to be mailed to my residence. That was it. There was nothing about over payment. It just boils down to this business being dishonest, discriminatory and preying on the poor. It really is a very unprofessional business and I hope this scamming stops soon as telephone book deliveries will soon be gone. This system of using telephone books is obsolete. What goes around comes around. They will all be out of a job next year hopefully. Patty
