Went to Danbury Dodge to purchase an older vehicle (1999 Jeep) since I was injured in a car accident a month before and my car was totaled as I was hit head-on, and I wanted to drive a cheap car until I was able to get back on my feet and afford a newer car. After spending time in there they persuaded me to purchase a newer car so that it would be eligible for their 3 year 70,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. Since I've known them for over 4 years I thought I could trust them so I decided to agree even though it would be hard for me to make the payments, but if anything went wrong it would be covered, considering I was told "EVERYTHING" is covered in "their" bumper to bumper warranty. The biggest reason I purchased a newer car was the warranty and peace of mind. Overall, my decision. The Story: After test driving a few cars I ended up purchasing a 2008 Jeep Liberty with 27,000 miles on it for $16,000 in Mid-November 2010. I was under the impression that since it was a Jeep Certified Used Car I would have sufficient warranty coverage plus the additional manufacturer warranty for the remainder of the 35,000 miles. They were quick to degrade the Certification value and warned me that it wouldn't cover much more than powertrain and that for $2,000+ I can purchase a 'bumper to bumper' 3 year 70,000 mile warranty and everything would be covered. Again, I've known everyone at the entire dealership for over 4 years and had become very trusting in them so I went with what they said and purchased the warranty, so now I'm all set! Wrong. The Problems Begin: Within the first two months the car became stuck in 2-wheel low for 2 days, which I found a fix for and was able to repair myself. One month later, three months after purchase date, the car began to shake beyond belief while idling. I gave it some time thinking I'm just not used to driving a truck and thats how they are. Until my girlfriend who owned an older Liberty (purchased from this dealership with more problems than one could imagine, but that's a seperate report) got in my car and became naseuous because of the shaking, I knew it wasn't just me. The car then began to shift gears extremely rough, so I knew it was time to bring it in. A week or so later my driver's window inside 'casing' (or track) cracked and the window became stuck down, of course in the winter. I made an appointment to bring my car to get looked at last Wednesday. After slamming my window into an up position so it would stick for a bit, I got ready to leave my house that Tuesday night. My car wouldn't turn on. Apparently, the key (the only key they gave me for $16,000+, they made me sign a form saying I knew I had one key but I didn't care since I could make a new key for $10 down the road, wrong you can't, but they never told me) has a chip in it to turn your car on. The chip went dead, within 4 months of me purchasing the car. I then had to have my car towed to the dealership to get fixed. No big deal, my warranty covers towing, this is why I bought the $2,000 warranty... The Dealership Nightmare: My car was towed to the dealership last Thursday. I got a rental car to get to work on Thursday and Friday and received a call at 5:30PM Friday from the dealership saying that everything was covered under the warranty and that I owe $100 for the deductible for the repairs, I still have the voicemail. No problem. I get up early on Saturday to return my rental car and get a ride to the dealership to pick up my car at 8:45AM. I had a meeting at 10AM so this gave me plenty of time to get to it after picking up my car, since the meeting was 30 minutes away. I tell them my information and they tell me my repair bill is $260.00. I said, "You must be mistaking, I got a call from Toby and he told me everything is covered and I owe $100". After reviewing it for about 10 minutes they say there is nothing they can do, I owe $260. One of the service guys then says, can I see the key that was made. They can't find it for 20 minutes. They then figure out that the key is not in the office because it is with the car which is JUST STARTING TO BE FIXED! The entire door frame is apart and they are just starting to put the window in. They inform me my car is not ready and that it will be ready by the afternoon. I have a meeting in 30 minutes, 30 minutes away and I have no car. About 20 minutes later they finally tell me that they are going to give me a loaner car. I get the loaner car and I'm successfully late to the meeting thanks to Danbury Dodge and their lovely service contracts, service department, and God-awful warranty. They now want me to return my loaner at their convenience and pay $260.00 for the repair since the "key is not covered under warranty, and a new key is $160.00", AND they didn't even repair the shaking because they "forgot about it". Their reason being "it was written in small lettering on the repair order so we missed it". I wouldn't be suprised if they make me pay another $100 deductible and consider it a 'new' repair. Their excuse for telling me that my car was done Friday night and I only owe $100 rather than $260.00; exact words from the owner: "We got you mixed up with another customer." Oh! Just so happens you had someone else there with a 2008 Jeep Liberty with a broken window and a key that didn't work with the same name and contact information as me?! Not sure what I'm going to do yet, considering I pay almost $350 per month for the car and now they want me to pay for a $260.00 warranty repair bill. This place is a complete scam and I would NEVER recommend anyone purchase a car here. There are plenty of places that will offer you service after you purchase the vehicle and this is NOT one of them. They want to make as much money off of you as possible and when you have an issue they act like they don't know you. Whether or not a key is covered under a warranty or not, at least make the customer aware that a new key is $160.00 to replace and it is not covered under the 'bumper to bumper' warranty that I purchased because I would not have signed that document. Four months after a vehicle is purchased is not an acceptable timeframe for a key to no longer turn a vehicle on. It should have been tested prior to being sold. Search for them on GOOGLE and check out their overall rating before you purchase from here, they have 2.1 stars out of 5 for a reason!!! The sad part is, I know the owners and the people who work there personally, I couldn't imagine how they treat 'regular' customers.
