Dale peters came over to do an estimate, he seem nice and he gave me a reasonable price. The deal including me buying the materials so he wrote me a list of things to buy. The job was simple enough. Take out the existing outlet and replace with a new one. a matter of 2 wires per outlet. there were about 14 on first floor 9 on the second floor. those number include a few light switches as well. 3 of the outlets in the kitchen had to protected by a GFI system. they had protection but the GFI outlet was located in the basement so i agreed that he could put in a double box on one outlet and relocated the GFI outlet. He did the work but was at my house for 9 hours and the original estimate was now triple the amount he had told me. i saw him messing around all day, doing things like vacuuming the outlets. he was already getting paid like 55.00 an hour i can clean my own house. he went outside for cigarette breaks often. the real kicker is he never finished the work. he refused to reinstall my outlet in basement, he cut a huge hole in my wall for the boxes but the hole was bigger then the box so i had 6 inch hole next to the outlet. he never did any of the outlet on the second floor or the back room on the first floor which housed about 4. he then said he would return and finish some work for no charge so i paid him 3 times the original amount to safe guard him coming back. he return about a week later. On the list of things to do he was to replace basement outlet, fix the hole in wall. finish the second floor, and he had broken a screw in a light switch the week before so that was all covered. during this trip he did all but replace the basement outlet and touched nothing in the back room on the first floor said it looked good to him. In the course of the day he glues up some medallions around the ceiling fan area (not on his list) messing around with the kitchen light (not on his list) I admit to giving him the combination for the hide away key so i didn't miss work after all this trip out was to cost me nothing so i didn't have to worry how long he was there. i get there around 3 he said he was there for 7 hours and only did 4 outlets and 2 light switches. how did he have time to do the things he wasn't told to do but still never finished the back room or replaced the basement outlet. not to mention the job he did on the hole in the wall looked like a child did it. it was then he informed me that it would be an additional 350.00 for his work today. I told him I wouldn't pay because he said it was going to be free, I wanted to call his insurance company to tell them about the damaged wall and he refused to give me the information. after him calling and writing threatening letters i agreed to pay him 200.00 if he would just leave me alone. he insisted on cash and so i met him and paid him off. Something very shady about this guy. I hired another electrician to finish the back room 4 outlets and the outlet in basement. It Took less then an hour and only cost 35.00. I was ripped off by D R peters electrical Services and I'm warning all of you to steer clear. There are cheaper electricians who do better work. This guy has a God complex and thinks he is the best in the field and No other electrician can do it the same way. |
