I contacted CTW Flooring Discounters through an ad I saw in the paper, $2.99 laminate wood flooring free installation. The owner, Mike, answered my call as “Tony” and came out for an estimate. He brings samples and takes measurements. I get an estimate for flooring and kitchen counters with tile backsplash. I tell him we will go to his warehouse to see other styles at the same price and go from there. First, we did NOT get the price on the ad for flooring; there are other costs involved that is not detailed in their ad. He did not explain any cost breakdown to us (we should of asked). Second, we ask that the work be completed in one week and was told “no problem” so we proceeded. During the installation of the floor, the worker cut his hand and damaged some baseboards with his blood. As a result, the baseboards were discarded and some were Red Bagged by the paramedics. Due to the accident with his installer, the work time was extended another week. We took time off work to accommodate their schedule so it could be finished in a timely matter. I often called to verify that the baseboards will be repaired and put back on the wall and was told many times, yes. We had several installers come to our home to complete the floor and kitchen. Each of them never prepared for the job and all complaining that they were not aware of the details involved for the task they were hired to do. Some workers did not return and two others called me personally to say they were NOT paid for the job they did at my home. I advised they talk to Mike (Tony) about their payment. As for the first injured worker, he was instructed to return to my home to finish the baseboards by Mike (Tony). I talk to Anel, the receptionist, about scheduling a time for the baseboards to be completed several times over a few days. According to Anel, the job will be completed with no problems, she will call the worker and have him come to my house. She always tells me, she will call me back and let me know (most of the time, I don’t get a call back). Later I get a call from Mike (Tony) and he says he want to be paid the balance right now! I tell him the job is not completed and when the baseboards are put back on and repaired, I will pay. I will be home Friday or Tuesday, you can send a worker then. Mike (Tony) says he will place a Lien if I do not pay today! He was very confrontational and would not listen to a word I was saying. He yelled constantly through the conversation, repeating threats of Liens and payments to his injured worker. I was caught by surprise by his response to me and felt threated by his tone. I gave the phone to my husband, he reiterates that we will pay when the job is complete. Mike (Tony) remained constant with his threats and at that point we ended the discussion. I am still receiving phone calls from his workers complaining of none payment for their labor. |
