Chimney Tech Heating Charged me for work that I canceled Internet, New York |

I had called this company to replace my chase cap that blew off from a high wind storm we had. We had used them in the past and I didn't think twice to use them again. We had a big snow storm coming in on Friday Feb 8th and I needed to get this replaced ASAP as this cap went to my furnace. First I had a little trouble getting them out to my house to even look at the job and had to threaten to call another company. They then showed up without calling to make sure I was home. Worried about the storm, I worked with the agent who is in charge not only about the chase cap but something I was told a few years back about the support inside of the chimney. She wrote up two differnt papers. One for the cap and a seperate order for the extra work that I was going to have them do. This was going to cose me 4k which I knew was high but again I was worried about my furnace. That thursday before our storm I gave her a check which she made me re-write to a different company name so she could rush to go pick up my materials and come right back to get the job complete, 7:30 that night I still had not heard from her nor had she returned. I had to call her to find out what was going on and was told that they were just leaving from picking up my materials and would be there soon. Needless to say nothing could be done in the dark. After careful consideration I decide Friday morning to cancel the extra work and just have her come to replace the cap as that was the most important thing. I only had a tarp on my roof and with heavy snow heading in I was concerned about it holding. She got upset with me and told me that the materials were already purchased and they would try and be here by 9am.. by the time I hung with her she told me not to expect them till Sunday the 10th. Sunday morning I spoke with her again, explained I just wanted her to come replace the cap. She told me that the extra piece that she picked up for me she was not going to charge me and lets just get the work done as it was all made to fit my chimney. Surprised the company was going to eat the cose of the liner I was thankful. She finally showed up over an hour late, with one worker whom she was not nice to at all. I was told I was not allowed to speak to him and that was why she was there... I had to entertain her in between her running home to check on her son and calling him. When all the work was done, I handed her a check for the remaining balance for the cap, she then handed me a seperate bill for almost 1900.00 for the extra work that I had canceled! I was upset and told her that I had canceled that work and why was she now handing me a bill, I didn't have the money in my account at that moment and was leaving town for a week. She told me she would wait a week and come back to see me. During that time I had gone back and forth over if I should pay for the work they had done even though I had canceled it. I evern spoke to the insurance inspector about the situation. when I returned home I was able to talk to the agent about the bill and explained that I wanted to talk to the owner/boss about the situation as I had canceled the work. She at first would not give me a number or name. finally she gave both to me. I hung up with speaking with her and she continued to call my house repeatedly leaving messages as if we never spoke or just hanging up.. I was finally able to squeeze the call into who I thought was going to be the owner/boss and ended up with her again! She was extremely rude and I explained that I just wanted to talk to the owner or her boss and to please either have him call me or give me the number. She refused. I am willing to pay for the materials that they bought, but I want to see their receipt as I think that is the only fair solution but I can't reach the owner and his agent is of no use. I am guessing I messed up and called the wrong company or it changed hands because they were much more professional the first time around. |
