Carnival Cruise Lines Poor and No service and just a mess Miami, Florida |

My wife took her first Carnival cruise a few years back with her sister and I swore I would never get on a ship of any kind as I have a fear of the water. However 3 years back she talked me into taking a Carnival cruise with her. It was a great experience. Since then we have gone on a Carnival cruise every year. The following year we took our children, then we went again when the Dream set sail. Then we just went March 20th to the 27th on the Glory and talked my two sisters into booking a cabin and coming with us and next year we have a cruise tentatively booked on the Dream again. This time talking my mother and her friend to book a cabin for the first time but after the experience we had on the Glory and with so many people telling us to try a different Cruise line we are torn. We have always been faithful Carnival cruise guests but the trip on the Glory was a nightmare for both my family of 4 and my sisters cabin of 2. Let me explain. I will start with my sisters cabin on deck 6 who had to put up with guests next to them that were constantly intoxicated, using vulgar language, smoking and throwing their cigarettes off the balcony (some blowing back onto my sisters balcony, not only ashes but half lit still burning cigarettes.. They were woken up at all times of the morning and night by the excessive behavior of the cabin next to them and when my two children went down to visit their aunts they were subject to the vulgar language and behavior even being inside my sisters cabin with the door shut. They first brought this to the attention of their cabin steward who stated they were his guests to and that there was nothing he could do.We all then went down to the front desk and were told there was nothing they could do unless it was in progress at which time they could call 7777 and then they would send someone from security up to the offending cabin. However, upon using the 7777 number half the time no one would answer the phone or you were instructed to dial 7778 and no one would answer that line either. On the two occasions that they actually got through and they stated they were sending someone, no one ever came and the disruptive behavior continued throughout the entire 7 days. I honestly do not think they will cruise again and I feel horrible about their experience as we were the ones who introduced them to Carnival and it became a nightmare. One is considering trying a Royal Caribbean ship next year which is too bad as we feel responsible for them having a poor experience and as a family we do not get to see them often as they both live in different states and this trip was probably a once in a lifetime. We however stayed on the Lido deck, deck 9 during this cruise. Our issues were different than what had happened to my sisters and had never happened to us on any ship with Carnival that we had taken before. Our room was never cleaned properly. We would come back and at times a bed would not be made, trash barrels with empty popcorn containers and such not emptied, no towel animal ( which the kids always got a kick out of seeing what was next) or no itinerary left for the next day.... ect... We did make a complaint to the front desk but again felt brushed off and not listed to and nothing changed. The ship floors themselves were often cluttered with debris and dishes and such and you never say anyone cleaning or wiping things down like we had on all of the other ships. Things just looked and felt dirty. The itinerary for the next day would often have conflicting or incorrect information on it so you never really knew what was going on. It was the most confusing thing we had ever encountered. It was not until on our last day home at sea that I ran into the cruise director Jorge who admitted that it was his job to make sure the itineraries were in order and he did apologize that there were errors and that things would not start often times when they were suppose to or things that were listed would not even take place. He tried to joke around with my wife and i saying he used to be a comedian ect.. and that he was only 3 weeks away from retiring from this business. That is not really what we wanted to hear but it was too late, the cruise was coming to an end, we would be back in Miami in a day and of all times it had to be the worst experience that we had ever had on a ship. We told Jorge that we were going back to our room and he said that he would send up a bottle of champagne and some strawberries for my wife and I and something special for the kids. I said it was not necessary but he insisted as he was sorry for the itineraries and took ownership for them so we went back to our room to watch a movie on the TV. Needless to say nothing arrived to our room. The next morning I went down to the front desk and left a message for Jorge. We were told he would call us about 10am. 10 came, 11 came and so i called the front desk again. Jorge finally called and make some more jokes and tried to smooth things over and stated he would have the things sent right up. I waited in the room until someone finally showed up. But they forgot to bring that "something special" for the kids. When the kids came back to the room they asked what was sent for them. I apologized and said I am sorry, nothing was sent for you. Now Jorge had told my sons directly that he was doing this so it was quite the let down. After seeing their faces I called the front desk again and told them that Jorge had forgotten something. Long story short it took a few calls and hours of waiting and wasting time in my cabin for Jorge to get it right. Again stating he is retiring in just three weeks to be with his wife and whatnot.. I could go on with more but I think you get the idea. We are not ones to complain nor do we ever write letters but in this instance we really felt the need to do so after all that had transpired and like I stated. With the jobs we all work and we living in Massachusetts and my sisters living in Ohio and Oregon it was most likely our one shot of ever planning a vacationing together and we entrusted Carnival with that, and that being my doing due to the experiences we had on prior cruises. As we stated we had planned prior to this cruise a cruise next year talking my mother and her friend into trying Carnival Cruise lines but now I am not sure. Our current booking number is 201DN4 and I can provide you with theirs if needed. Again, I cannot stress enough that we are ones never to complain or write letters but this time we really felt it was necessary for all the things that happened during our sailing. |
