I recently went to C & R Tire and Automotive to simply get 2 belts replaced and an oil change on my 2001 GMC Yukon XL. With coupon in hand for a $24.99 oil change and a quote for another $157 to replace the two belts. When I picked up the vehicle the bill ended up being higher than anticipated. The quote for the belts held true, but the oil change with my trusty coupon for $24.99 turned out to be a $48.27. Doesn't sound so bad, read on. So after paying for the over priced oil change I proceeded to get into my vehicle and fire up my air conditioning that was being supported by the new belt that was just replaced. And low and behold the air conditioning turned on in the front but the the rear and was no longer cold as it was before the belt broke and there was a new issue, the rear air no longer worked. I found this interesting as the rear air worked just fine prior to the belt breaking. I was informed by David that there was no way that the work that they had just performed could have caused the issue but would look into the problem. Later that day I received a call from my wife to tell me that now the air conditioning needed to be recharged and serviced, the cost of which would be $205. This sounded a bit high to me so I placed a call to another shop in the area and was quoted $110 for the same service and recharge. Which by the way was a quote based on the system being completely empty of any Freon, which it was not. I should note that $49.99 of that was for a diagnosis of the rear air issue. So to be fair, lets take away the $49.99 for the diagnosis, that leaves the bill at $155.78. An over charge of $45.78. A side note, we requested a phone call before any work was to be done on the vehicle, this did not happen. After that I was given a quote to replace the Rear Air blower motor in the amount of $277. So I placed another call to the GM Dealership this time and was quoted the price of the $122 for the motor and .7 hrs for labor which equates to roughly $66 for labor. So when you add the two up it comes to $188.00. So here is another $89 unaccounted for. And last but not lease I was given an estimate to replace a number of other items that apparently need replacement in the amount of $3,000. Keep in mind that some of these items may need to be replaced but to say that you test drove my vehicle and recommend that it needs shocks and an alignment when in fact you didn't even test drive the vehicle is ridiculous. In closing, I did not have the rear air motor replaced by them as I am sure that would have led to other charges yet not discovered by this crack team of experts. If I had of decided to do that I would have been over charged to the tune of $158.06, instead of the $69.06. It doesn't sound like much, but in this economy and when you think about all the other people they have taken advantage of, it adds up quick. Do yourself a favor, avoid C & R Tire and Automotive and do some research before you have any work done to your vehicle.

I am the Store Manager at C&R Tire on Tatum Blvd. I would like to first thank you for being a customer since 2007, and also try to answer some of your concerns over your last repair. The coupon you brought in is one we offer to all customers on our Web page; the coupon clearly states "oil change $24.99, valid on most vehicles, up to 5 quarts, additional disposal fee of $3.50”. The vehicle you brought in is a 6 quart system, so an additional charge for 1 quart of oil is $2.80.
$24.99 oil change + $3.50 disposal fee + $2.80 additional quart +sales tax of $1.97 = $33.26, not $48.27
These figures are clearly stated on your repair order. The belts we installed only make your compressor turn; they have no connection to your Freon system which is a sealed system much like a balloon. If the balloon is low, it has a leak just like your AC system being low. The vehicle holds 3lbs of Freon and only 2lbs were recovered leaving your system 1 lb low. This has no mechanical connection to your AC belt breaking from the vehicle, Also, there is absolutely no mechanical connection to your rear blower motor which is powered by electricity and not by Freon. The rear motor is receiving power and ground but will not turn on, which means the motor is just bad and needs to be replaced.
As far as receiving a different quote from someone else, I personally called a local G.M. garage (Van's Chevrolet) and was quoted $327.74 w/out sales tax to diagnose and replace the rear blower motor. We quoted you $218.47 w/tax, and you were given a copy of said quote, so I am confused at the $277.00 amount.
The final concern you have is the number of items we suggested to you due to mileage, time and condition of said items on your vehicle. We perform a courtesy inspection of all vehicles that come to our shop, and any vehicles over 60, 000 miles we bring to the customer’s attention whether or not certain items are still original. The reason for this is the fact that we live in what’s considered an extreme temperature state and we all seem to put a tremendous amount of miles on our vehicles, such as yours that is only 10 years old but has 132, 610 miles on it.
The part in question from your concern are the shock absorbers. We don't test drive for this, we simply check to see if they are original to the vehicle and suggest them due to mileage. Monroe Corporation, the leading manufacturer of aftermarket shocks, recommends replacement every 75, 000 miles due to normal wear and tear.
The fact is if you can find another reputable establishment to give you in writing that we did something wrong in our repairs I will gladly make it right and apologize to you for our mistake, but until then we stand behind our work and our diagnosis. As always, we give everything aside from brakes and alignments a 2 year, 24, 000 mile warranty, the best in the Valley. I can be reached at any time at the Tatum location at 602-457-2136.
Thanks for your time.
