BWI*BOINGO WIRELESS 800-880-4117CA Boingo, Boingo Wireless Airport access = monthly recurring charges South Santa Monica, California |
6th of Jan, 2012 by User350594 |
While waiting for a delayed transit flight at London Gatwick Airport, I signed up for what I understood to be 1 week's access in airports and other locations across the UK and Ireland to Boingo Wireless Internet, at a charge of $11.95 (as it was advertised to me). Through my UK/Ireland trip there was no other airport where Boingo wireless could be located. Boingo charged my credit card $15.95. Then one month later, they charged me another $15.95, and again one month after that, and so on. What was represented as a one-off charge when I signed up became a monthly charge, at a higher rate. Even when I went to cancel my "subscription" (to which I never knowingly agreed), their website announces their intention to still charge me at the end of this billing cycle. I was travelling and unable to receive credit card statements so I only noticed this recurring charge scam after several months. If you have used Boingo Wireless in an airport, check your credit card statement now, and check your account on their website too, to make sure that it hasn't been set up as a recurring monthly subscription. |

Hi there! We're so sorry that you had a disappointing experience with us. :( It sounds like you may have inadvertently signed up for Boingo UK and Ireland, which is a recurring monthly subscription. We'll be happy to take a look at your account, fully explain what happened, and try to make things right between us. Please email [email protected], and we'll gladly help.
Warm Regards,

Whilst waiting for a flight at Gatwick Airport, my husband and I needed to check our e-mails and so we made our way, with our laptop, to the "hot spot" area. The on screen instructions told us that we could enjoy free internet access for up to 15 minutes, at the end of which we would be given the option to choose to pay for continued use. However, the instructions also explained that, in order to enjoy the free 15 minutes, we would still have to register a debit or credit card, for ID and security purposes.
So we registered a debit card, quickly signed in to check our e-mails and then immediately signed back out again. The whole process took no more than 6 or 7 minutes and so we never reached the point where we were given the option to pay for continued use as we didn't even use up all the free 15 minutes.
BUT NOW WE HAVE A DEBIT ON OUR ACCOUNT FOR £9.95 - AND OUR BANK SAY THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE WE VOLUNTEERED OUR CARD DETAILS AND SO IT IS NOT CLASSED AS FRAUDULENT USE.
Well I don't know what the Bank class it as, but it's certainly fraud as far as we're concerned! |

I had the same experience and never used the service after the first event. I paid unknowingly for more than a year. A disgraceful scam |
