pop up in the middle of reading something on line - started bids right away |

I was definitely scammed by this web site - penny auction. Most people do not realize that they have to pay a registration fee. What happened to me is that I was bombarded with news reals of the new thing: penny auctions - and these were only snipets.
After I gave them my name, email address and credit number it went right to auctions - where little boxes of merchandise started out with a penny. So I tried one out - I couldn't see what I was bidding on - but it looked like a bunch of electronic gadgets. I started to press the key - thinking I was in the auction and it kept coming up with my name as top bidder than stopped - and then I saw I flash that said I owe $60.00 for the bids. Well they did not explain this - the original website changed from when I saw it. I thought that I won the bid and the price of what it was, I think a couple dollars is what they would take out of my card for these items - but instead I got a flashing sign after fact stating that i have no more bids left and they took $60.00, out of my credit card. I immediately called them - because they put the charge on my Visa card right away. I tried to call their toll free number and it said this number is no longer in service or disconnted - I even had the dispute/fraud center of my credit card company call the number and she got the same message. Then I tried to contact them through e-mail - because they had a place to contact them - and told them what had happened and why? I am not a stupid person. They changed their website some days later to show their terms and facts - They sent me and e-mail with a registration name and password - I How could they do this without be logging in. On Friday, the 20th of May 2011, I called that number again, and a "customer service person answered", I explained what had happened and she was very cheerful and told me why darling you bougth those bids - well how did they come with $60.00 and start an auction before this $60.00 started flashing and the bid stopped when at the last minute when it seemed I won the bid. It stalled out - it stopped and then a second later someone else one the bid for some ridiculous amount. How could they get away with something like this. I never heard of anything like this. But have been researching these penny auctions and even the it states that there are very few legitmate ones (like two) most all of them are scams. If you do win something there are fees and you are actually paying more for the items than it is worth. They pull all kind of stunts.
What could I do. She said I will not get my money back and there will be no bids -but I said what did I win - she said nothing.
Anyway that's that. I did inform like said my credit card company and they are sending out a dispute form. |
