I brought some of my grandmother's jewelery to Azari's after reading some positive reviews online. Father and son working there were very nice in initial appraisal, gave me what seemed like a fair price for all work. Told me to return in a few days with cash...
I had three rings. The first was a soft-silver Mexican style ring, that needed a straightening out of the band part. The charged me a mere $5 for this. When I picked it up, there were very obvious scratch marks from a clamp or pliers, near the head of the ring. I pointed this out to them right away, and the son told me that it was writing,or "a code." I tried telling them it wasn't there before, and that it looked like a scratch but they dismissed me.
The 2nd ring was also Mexican, and soft-silver. The band was thin, and had broken away from the head part on one side. The flat-shaped head piece had 3 small turquise stones set in. They told me that they couldn't do a normal solder job, because the heat would ruin the stones, and so they would laser-solder it, which would need to be sent out, and thus cost more. They charged me $25 for this. I didn't realize until I was out in the daylight that the turqoise stones had turned greenish. There was also a pool of silver on the underside of the head of the ring, all pointing to heat soldering, NOT laser soldering.
The last ring was an antique white-gold Belasi Brothers ring, with filament, etchings along the band, and 2 white sapphire stones on the head. I needed them to make it 1.5 sizes bigger. They told me that they would add white gold to the band, and they charged me $45 for this. It was only after I left the store that I noticed they had added yellow gold to the band!
I was very distraught about all of this, as my grandmother passed away, and these are the only things that remain. I even told them this when I had first dropped off the jewelry, asking them to please be gentle. They of course had ensured me that they would...
I called them after I got back to the office, and the younger man answered. I asked why he used yellow gold to fill the white-gold ring, and he said briskly "White gold doesn't exist. Gold is naturally yellow, and then it is dyed white." That may be true, that is naturally yellow, but I did subsequent research and of course you can add white gold to a ring, they were just being cheap! I then asked him whether he was sure he had used laser soldering on the one ring, and he proceeded to become very defensive, yelling at me to not come back if I was unhappy with his work. I was very calm, and said that I simply had some questions, and he barked at me that he was busy, and that he had done a good job, for a good price, and had to go. He told me I was just looking for problems, and that his work was excellent, and then he hung up.
Hopefully you will have seen from this review that this place is a mafia-run scam. They ask for cash and do not provide receipts on purpose, so that the people they scam have no proof of the transaction. They ruined my grandma's jewelery and I ask you, why would he get do defensive if he really hadn't done anything wrong?!? |
