apxplay Offered free book downloads but required membership first. Asked for credit card number. Then ordering process disappeared. Internet

I was directed by what I considered to be a legitmate website to apxplay for downloading books. The site apxplay appeared to start a download but without stating a charge. Then a requirement for membership was stated, allowing a 5 day free trial period. A request was made for a credit card number in order to establish a financial base for future orders. Once all this information had been submitted, and the download was again attempted, the entire downloading information disappeared. When the Internet was searched for complaints against apxplay.com, I found three separate complaints, stating that the website is a scam. All indicated that withdrawl from the "free" membership cost a withdrawal fee. I haven't tried to withdraw yet. Yes, the website is indeed a scam, which now has my credit card number. I will attempt to stop payment on any charges.
