I received a phone call from AMERICAN GETAWAYS informing me that i won a trip to orlando for five people plus a second trip to any one of 25 destinations for two people. total cost $498, payable immediately on my credit card. This was supposedly the result of a drawing I won at a home show a few months ago. I did attend the home show, but I don't remember entering this drawing. Perhaps they purchased the information from a vendor, I'm not sure.
Anyway, I listened to his spiel out of curiosity, listening to the other telemarketers in the background congratulating the other "winners". I was transferred to someone else to "confirm" that I had won, etc. He told me that he just needed to confirm some information. At that point I asked him if that meant he needed my credit card number. When he said "yes", I hung up the phone.
I happened to be on the computer at that time and within 2 minutes I was notified by Norton that someone had just tried to access my hardrive, but that they blocked it. They referred to it as a "known" account address. They had my email address already, asked me to confirm it, I did not give it to them.
Beware of this company, when I wouldn't just give them my credit card info they may have been trying to get that and other info by hacking into my computer. I hope they do not subject me to the telephone harrassment mentioned in the previous report.
