Albertsons / Supervalu Age discrimination? Meridian, Idaho |
6th of Apr, 2011 by User608084 |
Has anyone noticed age discrimination at Albertsons' / Supervalu? I was hired at Albertsons then as soon as I filled out my new employee paperwork, which is where they first learned my age, I wasn't given any hours. As soon as I successfully completed my required training the store director called me in an said he decided to "go in another direction". Huh? I hadn't even had a chance to work IN the store yet. I was mystified. That is when I realized that during training, the trainer started to treat me harshly and started bullying me, as soon as she found out my real age during one of the scenarios. I looked at the employees at the store and there certainly were some older ones there. I'm thinking the store director has decided he has had enough older employees and now wants younger ones. The other new hire, who was hired on the same day as I was, was treated nicely and was given hours even before she started training. Granted I look younger for my age, but why the sudden change of attitude when they realized I was over 50?

You are not the only one. Lately this is happening a lot with the Pharmacists in Chicago land area. I do not know if this is a company wide practice but the culture is there. One of the Regional Managers is going after older Pharmacist, verbally abusing and threatening them and taking these senior Pharmacists away from their regular stores. To add the hardship to these Pharmacists he assigns them to stores away from their home and riskier areas with a longer commute. To add fuel to the fire, these Pharmacists are then put on 'floating' schedules anywhere in the Chicago land area. He has replaced these older Pharmacists with mostly younger, newer female graduates. I consider myself one of the lucky one to be placed away from my store where I was for 15+ years, and then placed not too far away from my home even though I have 20+ experiece with the company but was reaplaced by a 28 year female. This is going to be hugh once this is out in the news and then followed by law suites. I am alaredy talking to the local authorities and contacted ACLU who requires proof. I think, few years from now this is going to be hugh.
Look at this link site where Supervalu settled a hugh descrimination suite:

To "User52" above: Your story sounds eerily familiar. I know a Chicagoland Pharmacist who is currently suffering through the very same experience you just described. Verbal abuse, floating schedules, assignments in very risky and far away locations--it's unbelievable what you've described...because I've heard it all before from this dedicated, 20 years+ Pharmacist.
I hope that others will come forward because I agree that a lawsuit is in order, and that it will be a well-publicized to-do. Thank you for sharing your story! |
