ADP
ADP Automatic Data Processing, Inc. Sent a payroll card with a negative balance. Internet
16th of Jun, 2011 by User254755
I received a voicemail from ADP asking me to call them back and give them my mailing address. They said they tried to send a TotalPay card on behalf of my employer and it was returned undeliverable by the Post Office. I was not too concerned because I know my paychecks come from ADP and I had not missed any pay on previous checks. But I was curious because I hadn't requested to have my pay issued on a card, and I know they have my correct mailing address. So I called the number they left on my voicemail. I explained the situation to the rep, and she confirmed that a pay card in my name had been returned by the Post Office. I gave her my mailing address, and asked her to tell me the incorrect address the card had been sent to. To my surprise, the incorrect address was the office of my previous employer. I haven't worked there in three years and they are no longer there -- they closed that location and left the building empty. She confirmed that the card was sent by them, not by my current company. She also told me there was no balance on the card because it hadn't been loaded yet by the company. I presumed that they determined they owed me back pay and decided to use this method instead of a paper check. I waited patiently for my card to arrive. I was anxious to see how much 'found' money I would be getting. When I received the card, I went online to activate it and check the balance. I discovered that the card had a total balance of -$1.50. That's right... they sent me a card with a negative balance. After further digging, I found that they had charged me $3.00 for returning their call to give them my address. Apparently my card had $1.50 to begin with and they charge for all calls to their customer service line. I decided to make a formal complaint and ask to have my money returned. I searched the ADP website and found the only way to contact them is to call their customer service number. No email or online chat or Twitter or Facebook options. Since they provide not contact method that doesn't cost money, I am left with no choice but to call them out publicly. How many people has ADP pulled this stunt on? How much money have they made by doing this? It's only $3.00, but they have thousands or maybe millions of customers. How many of them does it take to count as a 'class'?
