I've never received worst service from any other dealership ever than I did at Young Ford (& I've purchased 5 vehicles & 3 motorcycles to date). Prior to this incident I had been a long time customer (approximately 7+ yrs) of getting my truck serviced at Young Ford.I set up an appointment for routine maintenance as well as to check the truck out because the engine light was coming on after 25 minutes of driving & the truck would then start to run hot. After the service department checked my truck out I was told everything was ok. So within the next 7 10 days I returned to Young Ford 2 more times because the engine light kept coming on even after the service tech couldn't find anything wrong & couldn't explain why the light kept coming on.
The last time I was at the dealership for the check engine light I was told yet again nothing was wrong with the truck. I said I am not trying to get stuck on the side of the road & I was then told you absolutely won't get stuck on the side of the road. The following weekend the light came on, the engine started clanking & I lost power stranded on the side of the road in Spartanburg SC for 5 hours (didn't even break down locally). I called the dealership & was told the shop is closing & no one is here for you to talk to cause its Saturday. After numerous calls (20+) trying to find a towing service willing to tow from Spartanburg back to Charlotte the truck was towed to Young Ford after 9 pm.
When I spoke to the service department 2 days later on a Monday they said they would look at the truck & get back to me. When I was called back I was told the engine & the transmission needed to be replaced because the engine overheated, no coolant & no compression was written on the quote they faxed to me (new engine/transmission $5800 or used engine/transmission $4301). The dealership assumed no responsibility for failing to detect any problems after 3 service appointments or for telling me that the truck was ok to drive & that I shouldn't worry about breaking down or getting stuck.
Having no more faith in the integrity of any of the Young Ford staff members I towed my vehicle to another mechanic for a second opinion. After the vehicle was assessed I was told that the engine needed to be replaced. I explained everything that had happened & asked what about the transmission since I was told that was bad too. The owner of the shop said it was just the engine & that if the dealership had investigated more than just a quick assessment they would've found the problem. Adding insult to injury when I finally got my truck back the stereo had been stolen (swapped out & replaced with a scratched up non-working head unit) even though the truck had an alarm, was in 2 secured parking lots & there were no broken windows or lock damage (so clearly the remote or key was used to gain access). And surprise surprise after getting the truck repaired I am still driving it with the original transmission in it.
Since all of the above foolishness was preventable without any doubt in my mind Young Ford proved to me that they are incompetent at trouble shooting mechanical problems, don't hold anyone in their service department accountable for poor service & Young Ford lacks the proper integrity to resolve valid customer complaints/issues. If Young Ford was the last dealership available to service your car my recommendation would be that you trade your car in for another make before you trust them with your vehicle.
