It's September 2011 and you've been running out of luck on sites all over the internet to sell your wares. One day you notice an advertisement box on the corner of the screen that says "Tired of Ebay, join Yardsellr." You do and your journey begins.....
It's now December close to the holidays, and you've made some great friendships within the community. Nothing feels better than making supplemental income by selling things you no longer need or use. Danny Leffel founder of Yardsellr announces to take a small seller pledge seen here covered in a story by EcommerceBytes, right after Christmas. He said if 15,000 or more signatures hit the counter that loads of Photon$ (their fake currency) will be released to the community. The community signed and signed and signed and surpassed that mark by a mile and then things changed....
Working for a better tomorrow.
"A community in which all people are working towards a common goal is not a community at all, but a mission..." Gary Long
On December 11th 2011, Gary Long founded the group Photon$Head$. The Photon$Head$ main goal was to work for equality for all. Most if not all actions by the group were for the better of the greater community as they always discussed ways to improve sales and marketing for all
On December 21st 2011, while sitting in a futon bed at 2 in the morning, Gary created the Photon$Mart$ *A keyword search inside the search engine for equality for all found here.
The keyword search was for 5$ items, for the small sellers, so they could connect with other small sellers across the community. Opening day for the Mart was Jan 1st 2012. It boasted over thirty-two hundred items on opening day and excelled to nine thousand items in one month. Testimonials can be found all over Facebook speaking of the positive effects of the keyword search for all.
On June 6, 2011 due to many irreparable situations Gary Long ceased using the application . To this date users buy and sell in the keyword Photon$Mart$.
Lack Luster Customer Service
In February 2012 Yardsellr experienced great growth. Within this growth came a price. Users started experiencing glitches that would take users money while buying boosts (their premium for advertisement services). Other things that compounded this problem was they refused to pay back funds lost and in some instances paid way less than reported losses. This was the beginning of the end when it came to trust bond that they and the Small Seller community had.
Crew Members treated the community differently. You could tell the vibe had changed for the worse, and a rocky road was ahead.
Raise of Fees
It could be assumed that what happened to the small sellers was a direct affect of greed.
The general community of small sellers sold 10$ or under. True Yardseller items you'd expect to see in someones yard. The Founder Danny Leffel was seen on Yardsellr.com blogs blaming low priced items saying they were making them lose money and he raised the fees from 10% on any item to a 2.95$ minimum charge. A 2.95 minimum SLICE charge on 1$ on up to 29.00$ transaction.
Small sellers saw this as a slap in the face to all their efforts to this point. The company got them to sign a pledge, recruit all their friends and family, and then close the door on their face to sell out to HIGH priced Drop shippers.
They failed to realize the consumer wasn't dumb and the users who made up the general population of the community and they understood that this was directed to extinct them from the community.
If a company was losing money and knew that raising fees would make them lose more money due to loss of sales, wouldn't the company cut loose all that free money given away on Buyer and Seller contest boards? They give over 2400$ a month to top buyers and top sellers. Don't you think the buyers of the website could use that money??Obviously if they are TOP performers chances are they make money and don't need free welfare..This along with many other smaller situations could prove the theory that the website used the American public to get popular. Once they did and knew they could sustain traffic and members without the use of the Small sellers, they executed them off like they didn't exist.
A quick glance now of the site shows over priced drop shipped products and ridiculous fees attached. Although the website takes a stance at 10% premium fee now, they once have said multiple times that the fee is based on various factors.
A true site for Small Sellers SuperSellr.com
There is fact a greater part of the Photon$Head$ are working on a project to resurrect the sales of the true small sellers. The SuperSellr.com project has been in the works for months now. A quick glance at the website says "Future Site of Something Cool." What they have in mind or planned is all kept in secrecy, however there is a Facebook Page and a twitter feed which has over 9000 followers, so buzz is cooking...
It's rumored that this site will not allow drop shippers, and will offer a unique experience to personalize the life of the buyer/sellers.. Set to launch in late 2013 it's definitely an address worth bookmarking.
Will the future of small sellers and sites with no fees hang in the balance? Will SuperSellr.com be the future? These questions and more in store. See you in the future.. |
