XFX Graphics Card Warrenty and Replacement Scam and Poor Customer Service Ontario, California |
6th of Oct, 2011 by User326131 |
Back in 2006 I bought an XFX nvidia 8600 GT. I purchased the card specifically because my re-seller clearly showed me it came with lifetime warranty (there were cheaper alternatives/clones of the 8600 GT available at the time, but you expect quality, good customer service and excellent warranty from a Company with a reputation like XFX - apparently no longer, it looks like this Company is doing poorly in ALL regards). I still have the original box and documentation which states it has lifetime warranty. It says NOTHING about the warranty being for North America only. Indeed some 12 months after I purchased my card, I heard people in the online community complaining that XFX had changed their returns policy on this very matter. But what they PROMISED when I purchased my card should be what the are obligated to. Otherwise it's misselling their product. My system is cleaned regularly with compressed air on a 3 monthly basis and the graphics card has been well treated. In October 2011 my graphics card began to fail. My reseller has gone out of business and the Company he purchased it from (scan computers business account) want nothing to do with it and wont provide me with a returns number. They told me to contact XFX directly regarding the issue. Which is what I did. This is what I received from their customer services department. After the last message, I received no further responses. I'll let you decide if this is acceptable. Remember... I'm all the time looking at a piece of white paper included in the box boasting about the lifetime warranty of the card. None of the material in the box states this warranty is for North America only (because at the time of purchase... it WASN'T). [10/6/2011 6:43:32 PM] My XFX 8600 GT Graphics Card has recently started to fail on a regular basis. The temperature of the card is running at an average of 72-74 degrees idle. The card will fail during idle use. Lots of instant memory type corruption in display of image, system hung and requiring reboot to continue. Then usually 1 long x 3 short BIOS beeps (signifying VGA fail) and requires 3 or 4 attempts to reboot. Card fan and system cleaned regularly with compressed air every 3 months. Purchased with lifetime warranty at the time, please advise on replacement card. [SHAUN_T 10/7/2011 10:58:09 AM] Hi Ross, thanks for your message. Unfortunately the graphics card does appear to be faulty here, so we would advise you to test it in a second system to see if you encounter the same issues. Give this a go and let us know the outcome. Also, the lifetime warranty only applies to certain cases within the US, whereas within Europe the warranty is the responsibility of the reseller. Kind regards, Shaun. [10/7/2011 2:40:29 PM] This is what I`m getting Shaun: http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/sys/beep/awardB13-c.html I`ve already checked the Graphics card is at fault in 2 different systems (that was the first thing I tried). I`m using the alternative system right now. So when I clearly state the BIOS post error message I receive is related to the Graphics subsystem (see enclosed link), could you please me more specific? What do you mean when you say the Graphics card does not seem to be at fault? The warranty information I have included in my box, which I still have (and which I believe was purchased by the re-seller who is no longer in business with a business account from http://www.scan.co.uk/) clearly states that this product includes a lifetime warranty). For me that was the primary selling point of choosing this card as there were very similar, cheaper alternatives available I could have bought that did not include this. [JAMES 10/7/2011 2:44:51 PM] Hi, thanks for your message, unfortunately the lifetime waranty applies to North America only and not Europe, so we cannot help with regards to RMA replacement. If you have any other questions please let us know. kind regards, james. [10/7/2011 2:46:38 PM] I believe I asked more than one question there James? Whats with the one liners? This is poor customer service. |
